And if you believe the bullsh!t that the people in these countries were against our intervention then more fool you. I was there we did good in both countries and saved millions from living under tyranny.

The problem is you can't go into a country that has only known dictatorship, start a war, and then say "there you go, have a democracy", then go home!

I know the ins and outs of it are far more complex than what I've mentioned above but what is clear is that the allies had no real strategy for what happened post war, particularly in Iraq. Iraq is a territory that has historically always had loads of warring factions. They have Christians, Shi'ites, Sunnis, Alawites, Kurds, Yazidis, Turkmens......and god knows how many other groups of people. These people have always fought with each other, the Kurds have fought for independence constantly. There has always been a constant battle between the Sunni and the Shia, historically the government was Sunni whilst most of the people were Shi'ites.

Long and short of it is, Iraq was a very tough territory to keep peaceful. Saddam Hussein made Iraq function by ruling with an iron fist. Yes, the people felt oppressed but the violence was pretty well controlled by this method.

Whilst people in Iraq at the time may have wanted democracy, you have to question whether the country was actually ready for it or whether the majority of the people were equipped to deal with their new found freedom!

Easy to say this with hindsight, but was has been left is the perfect breeding ground for fundamentalism and indoctrination of disenchanted youth. Kids who have lost their parents, brothers, sisters etc. who quite possibly blame the west for that, left in a location with no police or government. How could a group like ISIS not thrive in those conditions?!!

                • 352 posts later and all they were trying to do was help out a bunch of kids. It doesn't matter why they were trying to do this, the PR kudos or whatever, it doesn't matter about anyones politics left or right, they were just trying to help out some kids.

Surely we can see past everything in order to reach that?

Link is to a group with a strong political agenda, in reality the under age kids have already been separated from the youth who are still there. And that isn't a bus queue, its a food queue.
