Man City purchased him for 10m from Wednesday. I mean sure that isn't much to them, but its still a sign that they think he has it.

Sheff Weds were a mess though. You can't judge him on the team's overall performance. I like to think positively about how much experience he gained whilst getting tonked every week.Comment

No mention of the value of their bid but St Etienne have bid rejected for Varane again:

I accept the club has to have a model along the lines "get them cheap whilst they're young and raw" BUT we can't pee about with the No.1 shirt - we have to have a solid, steady, capable and experienced person between the sticks. There's a bottom line with goalkeepers: are they good enough TODAY? We cannot shoot ourselves in the foot gambling on a keeper who might be good in 3yrs. Weak/dodgy keepers wreck entire seasons and undermine any positive aspects derived from outfield players.Comment

Are Man City paying us to develop their future Nos 1 keeper? I bloody hope we haven't paid a loan fee to develop someone else's player!!!Comment

Let’s not forget amongst this nonsense you were the only one claiming Walsh was a capable Keeper!!

Man City just paid £10 Million for him.

That's how the Championship works to a certain extent. Many teams loan players that they can't afford with the bi product being that the parent club benefits from the player's progression.Comment

Yes, and I would expect us to pay a loan fee for a player whose contract and value is running down whilst playing for us.
But this young man is under our "development" and with the resources of Man City why should we pay a loan fee? With us, he will continue to get chsmpionship minutes.....Citeh should be paying us to school the lad.
Anyone heard any contract rumours on this deal?Comment

To be honest, I've not seen a loan fee mentioned anywhere. I assume there is one.

St Etienne has made a bid of 1.1 million euro to AIK for Hungarian international central midfielder Áron Csongvai which has been accepted. Its possible they have given up on Varane. No mention of the value of their bid but St Etienne have bid rejected for Varane again:

I still maintain that Walsh was okay. He was our player and I would have been content to keep him to allow him to develop as long as we bought in an older keeper to fall back on if Joe stalled or went backwards. But, I'm not seeing any upside to developing someone else's young raw keeper for them. Indeed, only struggling piddly cash-strapped clubs loan-in a goalkeeper. I know Wednesday are a big club but they were essentially bankrupt last season.

I may not agree with your opinion but I respect it as we are all entitled to one.
Ive watched Joe Walsh and Mateo Salamon playing for the Development squad many times and I’ve always felt Salamon was the better Keeper, but what I would say is ‘both’ Keepers are poor with the ball at their feet.
I don’t want Salamon to end up similar to Walsh as it’s clear that his confidence has been knocked, both him and Salamon needed to go away and make their mistakes elsewhere and then come back and start with a fresh head.
I can’t say I’m 100% happy to see another clubs Keeper in Pierce Charles coming here to make his mistakes but am willing to put that aside until we see how he performs.
I’m personally hoping Ward gets to claim the gloves as it’s clear from the videos that he’s fine claiming crosses but there is very little video evidence to prove Charles feels the same way.Comment

Only 'cashed strapped piddly clubs loan in a keeper'. You mean like 3 of the top 4 in the Championship last season? Walsh was okay even though his stats were amongst the worst in the league?

Fair enough. I should have clarified decent young-ish keepers with a few EFL years under their belt- not wet-behind-the-ears teenagers. I don't think QPR should be where CFC send one of the 34 teenage GKs on their books... they need to go to Accrington or somewhere like that. Any keeper we loan in from The Prem should be 1 step away from their first team after doing a few seasons abroad or in L1 or L2. Even then, I'd rather have a 30-something keeper who has "been round the block".Comment
