many of anti Rio brigade seems to have missed or ignored a very important point - Rio's knowledge will improve many of our players, especially defenders - Nedum has improved considerably but still has a way to go. Yun has shown some ability but is raw and needs to learn, etc, etc

Unfortunately, some people are star-struck and are buying into what Rio Ferdinand was, not what he is now. They are blinded by the name and not thinking about reality.

It's a shame because he could've squeezed a couple more seasons out of his career, but the facts are what they are. There's no getting away from it.

My own opinion is he should retire gracefully and build a good media career, which he is pretty good at. It's difficult for any player who loves the game to admit his time is up, but his is.

You're all assuming he's going to be a first choice CB? What if he isn't? Personally don't think he will be the only CB we get, and besides, his experience would be invaluable for the dressing room imo.
