Madsen was playing in Holland when Marti was in Denmark.

Ignore outliers at big-mega clubs and focus on normal sized clubs, clubs we cross swords with.

I thought up 15 random clubs. I say random but I consciously tried to think of 5 clubs with recent times likes us, 5 who've gone up and 5 who've come up.

I have not counted caretakers or interim managers as far as I know...

Here they are and how many managers they've had over past 5 years:

      5 QPR
      6 Millwall
      4 PNE
      5 Swansea
      7 Cardiff
      5 Saints
      5 Wolves
      4 Norwich
      5 Bourmemouth
      5 Forest
      3 Portsmouth
      5 Ipswich
      4 Luton
      4 Bristol City
      5 Sunderland

We are not out of kilter at all. we are par for the course. There is no obvious correlation between sticking with the same manager for a long time and success. Indeed, Ipswich kissed a lot of frogs before unearthing McKenna - if they displayed the sort of forbearance you want and fretted over having a "revolving door" they probably wouldn't have got to him.

If our new manager is not cutting it after 23 games then remedial action has to be on the table. Trying to mitigate his failure by referencing our budget, a stiff run of fixtures or injuries must only be done in the context of them being expected hurdles he's paid to negotiate.

The only caveat on this I'd want is we'd have to have a credible replacement lined up - no point launching a manager unless a new guy can be in harness within a couple of weeks maximum. I'm not sure where we stand with Marti's departure and if club has candidates in mind? Maybe being on brink of a 4 week footballing shutdown gives us a bit a bit of extra time? Overall, I'd be staggered if the club wasn't constantly scanning the horizon for the next manager, that'd just be normal contingency and resilience planning any business would do. There must be names on a list somewhere in Nourry's desk.

      Another great post Abs.

I hadn't looked at it this way.

I'm not really sure what we want...but it does feel like alot of the fanbase were attached to Marti. I would say it's the manner that our 'better' coaches leave that is what disturbs the most. Warbs fell out with the board, Beale felt he was better off elsewhere, now Marti seemingly a mix of them both.

      • Marti is off, that seems certain, but seeing though he's not actually nailed on for the Brum job, would those who want Marti to stay have him stay?

Would those who are on the fence, like me, have him stay if the right mix of words come out of Marti's and Nourry's mouth explaining the situation?

Those who want him gone well we all know what you think

Personally, i hope we have already probed new candidates and we move forwards, the club and Marti should have shut this down immediatley for it to have any chance of being brushed over, i don't see a good off season with this hanging over the club.

That being said, i've threatened to quit my job, i've interviewed elsewhere, and yet i'm still wanted, i'm still there and i'm still performing....

        • Marti's post-match interview after the Burnley defeat was removed from the official website. Must say anything else? I like Marti to stay, however, it looked that decisions had already been taken.

          • Once someone has been put on gardening leave there is not really any coming back from it. Had it happen to me years ago when I decided to change job, the basis being if there was three months I could not work the firm I was working for would have more chance of keeping clients and contacts. It basically takes him out of the equation as well as possibly getting us some compensation if anyone does come in for him.

Personally wish him the best. Was fantastic last season, mixed this season but we have stayed up and can look to build on that.

            • This is the most bizarre situation. We can't sack Marti because we'd have to pay him off. With him on gardening leave anyone wanting him would have to pay us compensation. Marti won't resign because he'll give up the pay off. Other clubs can see the situation and play their cards as they wish. We can't employ another head coach until Marti is gone - as far as I'm aware.

Chelsea, Man U, Bayern Munich have all done this over the last few years

Unless there's a condition in his contract that he can't talk to other clubs. If he's in breach he can be sacked without compo.

                  • I spent my whole career hoping to be put on gardening leave, particularly this time of year when there's tons to do in the garden. Paid to bum about yer garden all week, bloody fantastic.
I do have dubious ethics and morals though, every time I'm knocked off me bike and lying in the gutter injured my first thought is always where I'm going on holiday with the compo. I don't think this is normal really....

Well, there's that at least. My concern was that there's a FIFA/UEFA/FA rule preventing us from hiring while the present incumbent was still technically in place. How we can afford to pay two people is another matter.

Interesting post Abs. I had a work colleague like you. He was angry with life and every day he talked about purposely getting hit by a car when he's on his bike. The ironic thing is he did similar because he walked Infront of a car and another of my work colleagues hit him. He was badly injured but then tried to take him to court. He had been through quite allot but you're not on your own abs with that backwards mindset. A witness didn't want to back him so he failed getting any money. Lives on the dole mainly but purposely looks to get sacked from jobs.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

                            • Very good David and nice to see you add some humour for a change. I do think many on here have lost the plot regarding Marti leaving this football club and oddly seeing the benefits that brings. Much more negatives for me and I just read an article by Paul Parker and he is very much on my page. I think we're losing a manager because he has asked the owners to support his ambitions and why is it such a problem to have an ambitious manager. For me Norrey seems to have gone completely away from the spot light. We finally have a manager that wants to build something but for me this little runt of a CEO wants to put a block on it. Why can't we see that? I'd rather the kid moves on and we keep the manager and let him do his job without clearly too much interference.

                              • Whats the bet that our dip in form after January corresponds to Marti trying to get another job?
Coupled with our poor showing last week tied to another time Marti is looking at other jobs instead.
