As it states the press conference is for the Asian media and the signing of Park is of commercial value to them. Perhaps this old article will explain:
Ji-sung Park has revealed his disappointment at being snubbed for the 2008 Champions League final. But the Korean insists he never doubted his value to United.
Having said this I believe he will also be a useful player.Comment

Exactly, and yet because it has been hyped up (and I lay the blame partly with TF here) with stadium talk, and rumours of more signings, there will be people disappointed if we announce just him.
It's an issue with communications and social media unfortunately, that we all know what's happening before an official announcement can be made.
When it does get announced with pomp and ceremony, everyone stands back and goes "meh, we knew that already"
It's a shame, but can't really be avoided.Comment

Everything's relative. This is about cracking the Asian market and to them he is a massive marquee signing. He is the most succesful SK player of all time, and been a success at a club they probably consider one of the top 2 in the world.... over there this is huge.
Compared to European players, no he's not. that said he's still a very good player who will more than be worth his place in the team, so it's a win win. Much better this than the hype over Beckham signing simply as a marketing ploy who wouldn't realistically have offered anything better on the pitch. PArk, at this time, is different and will improve our squad as well as be that marketing diamond for Asia.Comment

I've already made the point in this thread, and I assume he's read it.
You really need to calm down about this. I disagree with you, and I'm keen to explain why. You also took personal offence, where I was referring to us as a collective, not just you personally.Comment

Not at all. Yes he's a good player but he is still/was a Man Utd reserve who weve signed for 2m. Far from being a marquee signing. He may be the Beckham of Asia but we are not in Asia. Good player yes marquee no.Comment

We are in Asia next week.

The Premier League is global, the potential for revenue extends way beyond these shores, and as such, while this isn't the biggest signing we could make this summer in terms of cost and quality, it is huge for the club in terms of growing the recognition and support around the world.
It may not be that important to you or I, but the owners see this as vital.Comment

Hardly a reserve; he has averaged 31 appearances a season over the past 4 years there and appeared in many a big game for Utd in the CL and PL.You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.Comment
