Did Carroll ever have a shot for us?

He wasn't that bad Jimmy, he just happened to be the whipping boy. Good little player I think.

No mate. For us he was very poor.

Never doubted him as a player, but for whatever reason, set up, tactics, players around him etc. For QPR he did not do a thing.

Carroll is just one of these players who divides opinion massively. I think he is lightweight and was awful for us. He did not influence the game in any way. Always seemed to pass sideways or backwards. This is fine if you have top players round you who will influence the game but not our squad

I understand why so many disliked Carroll. We'd just had Taarabt two years before doing unimaginable stuff on the ball and Shaun Derry doing everything to get the ball back. If a player wasn't so obviously involved, I can imagine a lot of criticism. But Carroll was always making himself available for a pass, always looked to play the ball and was very tidy on it. If you recall, the first match he was unavailable for us that season was away at Millwall, where we lost our clean sheet run and also started the drop from the top. Whatever it was that he brought to the team, we definitely missed it. We conceded 18 goals in the 23 games he started and 26 in the other 23 games that season. Whatever it was that he brought to the side, it certainly helped IMO.

Mate he was bang average for us at best. Harry redknapp was his biggest fan but even he knew poor old gaz oneil was a better option at the end of the season than him.

Shame because I can see technical ability in him, but he's no kid anymore and he's so flimsy and can barely win a header or a tackle and for a central midfielder that is necessity.
