Listing the transfer Targets

I think the point of what he said was that these sorts of players tend to be more available and more importantly, available at a lower cost. I'm sure - to a near 100% accuracy - that if a player who clearly could benefit us at a suitable long term cost became available, regardless of the league or contract situation, the club would target them. The key is the finances, players with 1 year left will undoubtedly go for less than those with more. If someone became available at a low cost despite having a longer contract, the club would go for them."What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. Now that makes a lot more sense, well thought out. Look at each move on its merits and try to avoid the mistakes of the past. The big question here, as with everything going forward, is have the board learnt from their past mistakes. If they have, I still see TF as the man to take us forward.Originally posted by dsqpr View PostI hope he has not said that because it would be really stupid to limit ourselves in this way. Each player should be evaluated on his own merits. Very simply, we need to do two things:
1. Establish a wage structure that all new signings will be placed under. Right off the bat, this will eliminate most of the costly mistakes we have made.
2. Look for players who will want to play for the hoops. This totally excludes all players who have played for top clubs, as they will see us as a step down and will not be motivated.
Restricting ourselves from signing PL players who may be looking for a move just because they have at least two years left on their current contracts would be incredibly stupid.

I agree that each transfer should have its own merit but I think having too broad a reach will lead to longer periods without signings and we can't risk that. So highlighting the elements that make a player cheap and of good quality will close our search and allow us to get more done early, something we need to do."What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. Hey I like to think we all have the teams interest at heart. I think everyone is just so depressed right now, thinking how on earth did it come to this. As I said, and I would think most might settle for, is a period of stability with signs that we are moving forward on a sound footing and that we might just be able to eventually get back to the Premier League and consolidate our position there. It's most probably going to take time tho'. Trying to stay positive, honestly lol !Originally posted by nasser95 View PostThats more like it mate

Thats fair enough mate. Obviously, I always try and ignore the disappointment otherwise I think I would actually have a nervous breakdown. But I always know where people come from when they are angry. I think now, just ensuring the team can challenge as normal is key. Going back up is a bonus but only if the team can handle it.Originally posted by RangerMick View PostHey I like to think we all have the teams interest at heart. So what players fit this criteria Nas? would be interested to see mateOriginally posted by nasser95 View PostSeeing as we are now officially relegated and we now should start looking at transfer targets, I recall Tony stating the focus will be on lower league (Champ and below) expired contracts and 1 year until expiry. With this in mind, would people like to have a list of all the players under a certain age that fall into this category so that we can discuss potential signings?

Haha nI didn't read the messages just the title and listed some of the potential types of players I think we should be looking at. Haven't got a clue about their contracts.Originally posted by Hove Ranger View PostDo they all have 1 year left or less on their contracts?
Fact is we will need to spend some dolla especially when it comes to strikers. Sell charlie and release Zamora and we have cox.mifmwe don't bring at least two capable champ strikers then relegation could be a real possibility. But get up top and the wings sorted I think we can really push on.

Right, well I'm thinking people we want would be under 27 (not including) right? If so, I will come up with a list from each league of currently expiring and 1 year expiring. If there are other leagues people want me to list from, I will do that.Originally posted by Hove Ranger View PostSo what players fit this criteria Nas? would be interested to see mate"What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. So we're looking at players already? Think we should wait until we have a permanent manager, then see if we have a fine/embargo we need to sort out, then the players that we are going to shift/keep, then who is good enough from youth... A lot to think about and old Nassar wants the chequebook out?? All these youngsters that are out of contract will still cost a few quid.C'Mon You Supaaaa!!

Yes, the ones under 21 may cost a bit, but those above 21 I don't think cost anything if their contracts are expired. Also, what is wrong with having targets?
