Just think we should wait and see let's not rush this, it's not FIFA 15, don't know if these lot will be cut out for the Champ. agree with a transfer strategy but I think there is loads to sort out at the club.. i.e. Sandro couldn't play because of his Visa, how the hell did that happen.Originally posted by nasser95 View PostYes, the ones under 21 may cost a bit, but those above 21 I don't think cost anything if their contracts are expired. Also, what is wrong with having targets? People complain that we don't go into the market with a strategy, now we can have oneC'Mon You Supaaaa!!

I absolutely agree, but at the same time, this isn't the actual boardroom (luckily), so this sort of thing gives us as fans an idea of what we need to do.Originally posted by upperloft View PostJust think we should wait and see let's not rush this, it's not FIFA 15, don't know if these lot will be cut out for the Champ. agree with a transfer strategy but I think there is loads to sort out at the club.. i.e. Sandro couldn't play because of his Visa, how the hell did that happen."What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. I think the rule is officially at the end of the season of their 23rd birthday, at any rate, that fee could be a lot less than their actual value and will be small compared to the potential sale fee we could get.Originally posted by Hove Ranger View PostI think its 24 Nasser mate. Theres alot of players there, havent heard of half of them tbh"What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. Here is what I think is going on: He has seen that we are about to get screwed on Charlie's contract so he is thinking it is a good way for us to be on the other side of the screwing. He fails to realize that most other clubs are not as stupid as we are and therefore good players are rarely left with only one year on their contract. And the few that are will either be cr@p or looking for a big wages payday. This, therefore, is NOT a sound transfer target strategy!Originally posted by nasser95 View PostI think the point of what he said was that these sorts of players tend to be more available and more importantly, available at a lower cost. I'm sure - to a near 100% accuracy - that if a player who clearly could benefit us at a suitable long term cost became available, regardless of the league or contract situation, the club would target them. The key is the finances, players with 1 year left will undoubtedly go for less than those with more. If someone became available at a low cost despite having a longer contract, the club would go for them.'Only a Ranger!' cried Gandalf. Really? Look at Bayern with Lewandowski, Juventus with Pirlo and Llorente, Inter with Cambiasso. So many top players have become available on bosmans and cheap transfers and these can and generally do work well.Originally posted by dsqpr View PostHere is what I think is going on: He has seen that we are about to get screwed on Charlie's contract so he is thinking it is a good way for us to be on the other side of the screwing. Sean Scannell from Huddersfield and Gayle from Palace. I do also like Weiman from Villa. I think we can forget the Wolves strikers to be honest? Agrees about Joshua King. But he should be given a permanent out and out striker position, In my and his own oponion

No its a fairly popular model in modern football. Pick up younger players whose contracts are running low (obviously players that you have previously highlighted with potential) that you can develop and either help you do well or sell on for a profit. You must have a pretty low opinion of Tony if you honestly believe that he bases our whole transfer policy on the fact we are losing Charlie on a cut price deal. At least we may finally have a transfer policyOriginally posted by dsqpr View PostHere is what I think is going on: He has seen that we are about to get screwed on Charlie's contract so he is thinking it is a good way for us to be on the other side of the screwing. At this point, I have a low opinion of his knowledge of how to run a football team but a very high opinion of him as a man and as a businessman. IF he has decided that this is to be our transfer policy then I foresee more unmotivated dross coming in to the club on high wages and more angst for all of us in the next little while. If he finally learns to control wages then I don't think we'll be signing any good players if we adhere to the policy described above.Originally posted by Hove Ranger View PostNo its a fairly popular model in modern football. I understand that most clubs don't let their good players' contracts run out, or even run down to one year remaining. They offer their good players a new contract before that happens and if the player doesn't sign then the club transfers the player, thereby getting full market value. If you want good players you will have slim pickings if you restrict yourself to players whose clubs have allowed their contracts to run out!Originally posted by Hove Ranger View PostYou obviously dont understand it.'Only a Ranger!' cried Gandalf.
