I compare Nouray to Richard Thompson during the nineties. He was good at managing the business side, however, he was the reason Gerry Francis left, Les Ferdinand was sold and a season later we dropped from the Premier never to recover again. I recall him saying that it was not important which division you play in, but that the club is profitable. Nourray is heading that way. Maybe he is good at managing the finances. But please Mr. Nourray ... leave the playing side out of your routine and let the people who are paid to do that job do just that.

Very interesting comparison. In this light it would appear that Nourry's role could end up creating conflicts of interest within the club: not just between himself and the manager, but also creating bad feelings between those players who feel they justifyably deserve more playing time but are left out to supposedly add value to a second-stringer. I'm all for giving young players a chance but if this is the club strategy then we are a Fantasy Football experiment and our desire for success on the pitch is merely incidental.

Iirc correctly Gerry Francis left because the club were about to appoint Rodney Marsh as ceo/dof/ something like that, which was decided without Gerry's knowledge and he kicked off about it.

The relationship between Gerry and the club went south soon after. Rodney never got involved so it was a massive #### up all round.
