Very interesting comparison. In this light it would appear that Nourry's role could end up creating conflicts of interest within the club: not just between himself and the manager, but also creating bad feelings between those players who feel they justifyably deserve more playing time but are left out to supposedly add value to a second-stringer. I'm all for giving young players a chance but if this is the club strategy then we are a Fantasy Football experiment and our desire for success on the pitch is merely incidental.

Iirc correctly Gerry Francis left because the club were about to appoint Rodney Marsh as ceo/dof/ something like that, which was decided without Gerry's knowledge and he kicked off about it.

The relationship between Gerry and the club went south soon after. Rodney never got involved so it was a massive #### up all round.

I compare Nouray to Richard Thompson during the nineties. He was good at managing the business side, however, he was the reason Gerry Francis left, Les Ferdinand was sold and a season later we dropped from the Premier never to recover again. I recall him saying that it was not important which division you play in, but that the club is profitable. Nourray is heading that way. Maybe he is good at managing the finances. But please Mr. Nourray ... leave the playing side out of your routine and let the people who are paid to do that job do just that.

Is it Julien's responsibility to get the players fit though? We surely have the "performance" and medical team that dictate that?

Julien is there to coach and select the team only?

Of course it is , he should be at every training session in his tracksuit instilling into the players what is expected of them .
Why rely on someone else when it's gone so wrong so far.

Expected goals, it’s a load of nonsense to keep the data analysts and spreadsheet Christian happy. Pretty similar to possession stats, they are meaningless too, if you don’t create chances you won’t score goals.

Tend to agree with Charlie it was a freak result. Coventry xg was 1.27 and ours .6. Just means their finishing was extraordinary . I know we weren’t good but some of their shots were brilliant. (A team's actual goals can be higher or lower than its xG, revealing whether the team overperformed or underperformed in their finishing.)

I did actually see the xG stat on Livescores yesterday and I thought to myself what a load of ######## those stats are, based on that the result should have been 1-1 or at worst 0-1. The reality is that they completely outplayed us and I think their performance (along with our incompetence) justified at least 5 of those goals

I've seen the last 2 away games , both Coventry and Watford were a lot fitter than us .

Yep agree they were both a lot fitter and stronger.

However, which players could JS select that are fitter? Because I see no evidence that any of the squad are fit, it’s honestly ridiculous that Dembele is cramping up after 75 mins three games in a row.

I would point the finger firmly at Ben Williams for this, he clearly made a point at fans forum that he is not responsible for dealing with injuries but instead on Player Performance, for me this is where we are most lacking compared to our opposition this season.

JS is clearly a yes man and simply takes the training and selects the team within the confines of Nourry strict rules. He doesn’t even coach set pieces, they have someone else that does that who reports directly to Nourry.

I am suggesting the problems start much higher up than JS.

He's an experienced manager and is not out of his depth. He's been brought in to manage a squad that has been selected for him to coach. He is three games into the season and has now seen what he's got. As its been said, its very difficult to have a team of rookies. You can carry a few if theyre not of the class of 92 calibre. Rather than going for 21-23 yr old and 30+ players, we need some 24-30 yr old players who've been around the block.

Marti obviously advised the Board that the squad wasn't good enough, they didnt want to listen and he started looking elsewhere. The Board will now be hearing that from Julien too. They cannot fail to hear a repeated message, and Nourry will know it as well. Its obvious that the experiment isn't going to work and let's just be thankful we've learnt it three games in, with an influx of cash arriving today and a week left of the transfer window.

Lets see what happens between now and the close of the window.

He's definitely out of his depth , to many players not good enough and don't try hard enough.
Cov did us on energy , our mistakes and our lack of effort .
We are so slow and predictable...
This lot need to man up and show some pride.
and get some circuit training in , huffing and puffing around the pitch .
Sorry to say Steve cook has had it at this level .
We dont play like a team more like 11 individuals hoping to keep the score down , the non existent marking today was school boy stuff .
