For someone that was rumoured to have pace and liked to run in behind that certainly didn’t ring true looking at Obikwu.
To be perfectly fair to him it’s not difficult to apportion some blame to how Stéphan set up Smyth , Lloyd and Obikwu in unfamiliar roles that look like the players are uncomfortable with.
If he wants to play Lloyd use him central in a lone striker role not out wide on the wing, can’t really speak about Obikeu but Grimby and Lincoln used him up front and not wide as Stéphan selected him to play tonight.
The only thing Smyth has got is pace and next to no ball skills so why is he being inverted into a 10 or second striker role.
Same could be said about Vale, he’s got no pace so Stéphan keeps selecting him out wide.
If Stéphan wants to baffle and confuse both fans and players he’s doing a good job.👍 1Comment

Clearly goals are going to be hard for us to come by. JS clearly has no idea about who to select and where to play them up front. Fortunately we show some good signs in other areas so all is not lost. Information about fitness and availability of several players seems scarce so JS is entirely responsible for resolving this conundrum. But he needs to stop doing silly things.Comment

For me we won't score from set pieces until we start drilling the ball in.
Give it a fizz anything can happen, but just floating it is too easy to defend.
The lad Scarlet's first cross wax a beauty noone on the end of it, same with Amadou's
They have to rain the crosses in hard and 1st opportunity then players can get in the box, ready.
Completely dominated that game and I thought they were gonna nick it.Comment

Obikwu looks like he could be another Taylor Richards , did'nt seem interested , recieved the ball twice and just gave it back to the player. If you go to a new club and don't play for 6 months because of injury, at least put some effort in and be positive, like Dono says at least the youngster Scarlett got involed and tried to create.
Obikwu came on and didnt seem to do anything other than wander around. Hate a sub who comes on and can't be arsed to make an impact. Scarlett got himself in the game. Obikwu just stood out on the left and offered nothing. We are missing a real threat up top. Issak should have got a run out as cant see kamara and nico starting again on sat. Pls get kolli back in the squad. Why pay his wages if we won't play him????Comment

We have looked ok this season in our play up to the box but our end product is terrible. Smyth , Burrel and Lloyds first touch and technique is terrible. Kone not much better.
6 players injured after the first 6 games doesn't bode well , can't believe we did'nt overhaul our training / Physio department and we've still got that cycling #### here.
Bit worried we are going to start sliding down the table now , oh well , it was good while it lasted.Comment

long day and a frustrating watch....
Lloyd no bottle wouldn't take on FB , Smyth no end product. Be surprised if burrell touched it more than 5 times .
Defence looked comfortable all game and were happy to knock it about amongst themselves, occasionally passing it to madsen and kamara who sat to deep and would knock it back to the defence...We've got to move the ball quicker and learn how to break down teams that sit down deep or as Harrow says we will soon drop down the league... thought mbegue an Scarlett did well when they came on the other bloke up front didn't get involved. ..... goodnight all.Comment

Charlton seemed happy to keep the score at 0-0. For all our possession we created very few clear cut chances.
I would have let them have a spell of possession, as they were too happy just to sit deep. If they moved forward we might have been able to exploit the space behind.Comment

Yes. We need a Frey to just bash holes in these packed defences. People talk about our pretty play and build-up but that's ignoring the fact Charlton let us have the ball. They just sat there with two banks of 4 protecting their box and 2 fast players sat up top waiting to pounce - they LET us have loads of ball, time and space. They basically gave us the midfield.
From their perspective it nearly worked. Twice they pinched a loose ball and burst through. Once it was offside and the other we dragged Grant back.

Yes I liked Frey and we are a better side now than when he was with us. But that’s water under the bridge.
Do any of us (including JS) have any idea of our best forward line up? This seems even more complicated now with unknown injuries together with the fact that a few of our players only seem to play well when coming on as impact subs.Comment

Obikwu comes on for 11 minutes, and has been written off already.
The moaners are back. We haven't heard a whisper from them for the first 4 games...
We are in a good place. Best start for years, young talent coning through, great signings and we could have gone top last night.
Even if it is a false dawn, I haven't felt this optimistic for years personally.Comment

We seem to rotate players and with a good squad makes sence. However, why we see very little of Morrison, Varane ... and Kolli! We lacked the punch, yet we have a player quoted at £5 million by our club who cannot have a look-in in the team! Personally, apart from Burell, he is the best striker at the club and keeping him out is damaging us. With four regulars already out injured, it will be wise to recall him back.Comment
