  • Julien Stèphan

    Can someone on here with a more European background give me their thoughts on Julien Stèphan. Looks like a more realistic option and has moved to fav. Played as a defensive midfielder but has an ok managerial record by the looks of things. Come from a high level footballing family with plenty of pedigree.
    I played sunday league football today.

    Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

    I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

    We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

    From the data he spends an average of two seasons at each club......thats a good start in itself!

          His father Guy Stephane is the assistant coach for France and Julien made a name for himself by helping Rennes qualifying for Europe for the first time since 71. He is also the coach who brought Strasbourg to Ligue 1 for the first time. Strasbourg is the club Rosenoir coaches now. Possession and high press is his recipe for success, is what I read...

                  I live in France.

                  To sum up the French;

                  Very competent at many things, when they get it right, they really get it right, bread for example. But arrogance can bleed into things, prides come before a fall, they don't like to admit they are wrong, Citroens for example.

                  Sport is life. name nearly any sport and you'll find a Frenchie near the top. They are excellent at bringing on youth, the clubs and support given from local and national government is insane, i would suggest world leading. They are excellent under pressure, it's a cultural thing, across all sports but especially football, rugby, tennis and alpine sports like skiing. Not sure on the relevance here but it's pretty cool how much it's valued.

                  Never heard of this dude, i don't follow French football at all.

                      Stephan’s style

                      Stephan is known to have a possession-based style, seeing Pep Guardiola as an influence, while he is also a self-confessed fan of Mauricio Sarri. Stephan’s preferred formation at Rennes was 4-1-4-1 with a high-quality holding midfielder, but he has also regularly played with 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2. You can expect a holding midfielder to be a priority for Stephan.

                      The good news for QPR fans is that Stephan is also a realist, and that’s a quality that is vital in the Championship. The Frenchman once admitted: “It is not possible to play Guardiola everywhere.” A short passing game is how Stephan likes his teams to operate, while they can be cautious in nature. QPR fans can expect a patient approach and not one that is gung-ho in the pursuit of goals. Stephan clearly weighs the risks of being aggressive in each game and is very opponent-specific in his approach.

                            He does face a difficult task however if we can recruit a bit better Madsen did ok near the end of the season not sure if Celar will pull a shirt on Frey can't stay fit and neither can Kolli will Kelman be given a shot at cf we need a goals Chair had probably his worst season not fit and tbh dreadful at times didn't help JCS never fit Morrison similar but did reasonably well we've got some faces to come back but we also need some durability coming in imo
