That is an absurd amount of money even for a PL side. TBH I don't see what all the fuss is about, a good 2nd tier player but not a stand out man

But Barton was at least a proven prem player who'd played for England also, plus was a free transfer for a player who's market value wasn't insignificant. His signing also encouraged others to come. All things considered, it wasn't that ridiculous. Rhodes is a Championship player and never played in the prem let alone proven. Such wages for a player with only championship experience is laughable, even more so when there's an over inflated fee to consider also.
