Watford want £11m for Troy Deeney who has never played in the top flight and has no England caps. Whether Townsend is the right signing for us or not, in today's market he has to be worth £10m.Comment

That's what he'd cost, not what he's worth in the wider market.
/pedantry

FWIW I like Townsend, his effort is good, and he comes across as a decent sort.Comment

Townsend would be a top signing imo. He is young, has EPL experience, and would likely be pleased to come to the club as he came before- cant say that about many players.
He delivered more on loan when the going was tough in the EPL than any of the current wingers did in the championship last year.Comment

Well my friend if you want a philosophical discussion about "worth", I would put Deeney - someone who has served time for kicking someone repeatedly in the head - at not a great deal. However, when other footballers are charged with threatening to throw acid in the face of an ex-girlfriend, maybe he is not so unusual. Personally I struggle to think of a single footballer who is "worth" much more than a second hand Ford Escort - sadly the market takes a different view...Comment

What a bloody joke. Some people on here forget what size of a club we are. If and a big IF we signed townsend that is a MASSIVE signing for QPR. He is a class player and only 23. To see posts that hes just one footed, one dimensional blah blah is a joke. He came to little qpr was a stand out player and the following year played regularly for a top 5 team in the prem which resulted in international recognition and him being the hope of the england team for the world cup.
Short memories on here as hes gone a bit under the radar the last 6 -7 months due to injury.
Absolute joke some of our fans, 10 mill for 23 year england winger being questiones when we signed a 22 year old england international cb - prices are about right and hed be a massive signing for most prem team outside top 4 but obviously not for the mighty QPR.Comment

At least you admit to being pedantic.
1) If by 'wider market' you mean the global market then that's irrelevant to QPR and Spurs who are in the UK.
2) What he'd cost IS what he's worth if someone is prepared to pay that amount for him. That's basic GSCE level economics.Comment

Why shouldn't people question signing a 10m winger when we are going to be playing with wingbacks? Some of us realise we are a small club and need to invest wisely, 10m for someone not starting every week is big club mentality. What a bloody joke. I'll be pedantic. QPR and Spurs are not in the UK (GB and NI), just in GBAt least you admit to being pedantic.

Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.Comment

Agreed. Good player, but not sure how he'd fit into the new system, and a waste of money for a bit part player.Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.Comment

I would be fearful if we go into the season only able to play one system as that's a recipe for disaster. The more adaptable we are the better we will be able to react to the way the game is going instead of being rigidComment
