The fact is it's a player’s prerogative to have a shop around, particularly an experienced player on a free transfer. The club can't just put a gun to a players head and tell them to sign (although Paladini may have tried). You make the player what you deem to be an acceptable offer and then you wait for their response. If the player (and/or his agent) feel they can get a better offer elsewhere it's their right to try and do so.

We're not Man Utd or Chelsea remember, for 95% of our transfer targets this is not a once in a lifetime opportunity. There are probably a number of clubs that each of our targets would join happily if the money is right.

The only way of potentially hurrying a deal through is to offer a salary that a player believes cannot be bettered anywhere else...........but look where that got us, Julio Cesar on a 4 year contract on 80 grand a week?!!

Most on here would agree that they would prefer the club to start paying more realistic wages and I'm certainly one of them. If that is what we want then we have to be prepared to see the club work hard in the transfer market and unfortunately, sometimes lose targets to other clubs who are prepared to pay the player more. I think a bit of patience is what is required, hopefully if we get it right in this window we can have quieter transfer windows in January and next summer!

IMO it looks like Rangers only appear to have learnt some but not all of the transfer market lessons from the past.

Yet again it appears we are unable to secure signings quickly and as a result they drag out over the preseason waiting for other clubs to come in and poach them. The likes of Caulker we have had an offer accepted but still wait to see what happens, Green / Zamora we have all been told have been offered extensions but again no signatures as they are still shopping around.

We need to be far more positive on this front and get these sorted so much quicker, as we are now entering preseason with a squad that is 14 players light of last season, with no new signings and what appears to be the fact that we are hanging around for people to either finalise the final £1 of a contract (if we are miles apart then we should have said no, and already moved on) or waiting for them to see if another offer from someone else comes in that they fancy more.

I can see us being “gazumped” by other clubs on quite a few 1st choices leaving us with no or a small amount of time to try and get 3rd or 4th choices and then being forced to paying over the odds either in wages, or transfer fees and not being of the right quality.

Yes we qualified via the playoffs so we are 1 week behind Leicester and Burnley who have already made good in roads to their renewals and new signings, but according to the board they had a plan A and B already made up, they just didn’t know which one they were going to use, so this cannot be used as an excuse.

Think we do need to look as why it takes us so long, and address this situation, as I don’t want to be ripped off and sign another loads of rubbish like we did before, but I also don’t want to lose out because we dragged our feet over pence other clubs seem to find the right balance so why can’t we.

Some lesson have been learn't like you need a blend of experinace and youth and not just household names but not all IMO

So....it's only you guessing we may not have learn't lessons then.
I actually thought the lessons learned were that we wouldn't throw big money at foreign players who haven't been scouted properly

Very well explained and I agree, I don't want our club to offer silly money.

For me the lack of action tells me we have learned as before we would have made an offer which was to good to be true for the player we were signing and they would sign it ASAP as they knew they would not get a better offer elsewhere (Barton is the example on the train one minute from the north signed and announced within days and were 60k a week lighter in the pocket). I like to think now the delays are due to us making an offer which is reasonable to a players ability instead of being bent over like the last few windows

As I said in another thread think we will face two or three windows which are painful while we get the message across to players and agents were not there for the taking anymore as they currently think its QPR interested so lets add 25% to what we want as they will pay it and when they now negotiate with us they get a rude awakening

No news is good news in one important respect. It means we've learned not to shoot our mouths off every five minutes. This means the press can only re-hash and make it up. Keep an eye on the markets. I notice Caulker 1/5 with Harry's fave turf accountant, reckon the old boy helped himself early doors ;)

Tarbie is right but the fact remains that we must make suitable signings very soon.

We would all sign for QPR regardless of the offer but a non supporting footballer will look at all the options. We are a small/new/recently unstable premier league football club known to pay past it players big money on long contracts. That was the appeal and that's why we had all the problems. Mercenaries are now rightly finding out that QPR have changed their policy having learnt from their hard lesson but then this gives us an altogether different head ache. How do we attract the players we need? Given all the above, I actually don't know.
