We're a mid-table championship club with a quarter-billion hole in our accounts. We can't just go out and splash £9m on Andre Grey or Jordan Rhodes or whatever. We all saw the 2013/14 finances. Ramsey clearly wants to play with one up top and a more creative no10 (the Warnock team setup), hence signing Polter and Chery. If there's no direct Austin replacement that's fine, we're shifting style.

Fair enough there are some people who have formed consistent opinions over a lot of games. I spent most of 2013-15 making that same argument about Redknapp (that I thought he had done an awful job for us even in the PL and a few particularly good/bad games for us didn't suddenly change things). But many seem to have been all hyped up for Saturday only for it to come crashing down and they then last out at the manager. Didn't really see many "Ramsey out" posts 90 minutes ago.

Some of that's true, some of it's rhetoric. You said "Not sure what you are after? We're a mid-table championship club with a quarter-billion hole in our accounts. We can't just go out and splash £9m on Andre Grey or Jordan Rhodes or whatever." but is that actually true? Firstly, with the FFP fine looking to be a relatively meagre £8Million, that particular worry is not an issue (and I dare say the club knew this to be the case anyway), and at the same time, we should not forget that some of our largest shareholders are multi-billionaires.

Secondly, there's such a thing as false economy. Cut too hard, too fast, and you stifle growth. I agree with you (to an extent) about the signings you've mentioned, I alluded to them too, but at the same time we've signed the likes of Konchesky (seems like a desperate signing to me - sure. he's experienced, but surely not one for the future) and Gobern for example. And players like Polter, coming from the German league 2, have yet to prove anything. So I disagree, we could actually have splashed £9M on Andre Grey or Jordan Rhodes, especially if the transfers of Austin and Phillips had been handled better.

As for people being hyped up, sure, they probably were, and I agree to have any high expectations was unrealistic, and given it's QPR, naive, but I think you'll find many of the posters calling for Ramsey to go or at least say it's got to be considered were saying this before Saturday.

With our wage bill, and influx of new players and that ridiculous amount of money spent in the last few years, i find it totally ridiculous and quite insulting to us supporters when anyone from the club says 'we are regrouping and we should not be expecting promotion'. With the way this club has been run and monies spent, its the bare minimum we should expect. Okay staying up isnt a given, but having a real go at getting back there should be every time we come down.

Pearson would definitely be right in the category of future QPR manager, not a bad shout. Lambert too cautious.

Fernandes was understandably desperate not to do a Briatore and has been admirably loyal - perhaps too loyal - to his managers. I hope it works for Ramsay but IF it doesn't then this time Tony needs to act before it is too late.

Having experienced the likes of Holloway, Waddock, Gregory, De Canio, Dowie, Magilton, Sousa, Hart, Harford, Warnock, Hughes and Redknapp and that's just in the last 10 years, I think QPR fans have some idea what a decent manager is like. For me Warnock was the pick of the bunch, Holloway was fantastic and Magilton, Dowie and De Canio were decent. Hughes was on some kind of ego trip and we all know about Harry.

What marked out our best managers was passion, leadership, determination, a knack with the players, the fans and the press alike, an assuredness that made me feel confident (or at least excited) when they were in charge, and of course the ability to translate all that into results on the pitch. With Ramsey, there seems to be something lacking in those departments. Whether it's because this is his first managerial role, I don't know, but it doesn't not surprise me one bit that people are voicing concerns. We've been through the mill with managers and we're rightly fed up with it. Now, the difficult question, which this thread poses, is how long do you give him if results don't go our way? At the moment it's just that, a big IF. All we have to go on right now is last season, where Ramsey inherited a relegation-bound side riddled with inner conflicts (if people like Joey are to be believed) and low on confidence. So on that basis, it's hard to judge. However, there were decisions that smacked of inexperience, and as far as I'm concerned, we're still seeing them. If it is the case that Ramsey eventually comes good, will it be at Ranger's expense?

The trouble is there are so many other factors at bay. We're still suffering the aftershocks of an awful 4 years of mismanagement and ineptitude on behalf of Tony Fernandes, that has seen our club become an embarrassment. The pre-season shows this process is far from over. Ramsey may come good and turn things round. But then again he might not. All I can say right now is he doesn't fill me with confidence and I think a good manager should do that. In terms of how long if things don't go right, well surely it will be obvious by Xmas, one way or the other? It would certainly be crazy to sack him now!

I haven't read all posts in the thread but you make some excellent points, I am so worried that Ramsey will be left in the manager's seat too long even if he continues his run of failure no matter what the excuses may be!

Matt Phillips wasn't playing because he was terrible when Harry used him, whether that was a positional or motivational thing, I don't know, I will give Ramsey credit for somehow getting Matty back on track!

I am sure one big lesson he has learnt is not play Charlie Austin again as he is not focused with his transfer speculation. I'd give him till the end of September.
