Hamer news / rumour
"The veteran shot-stopper collided with teammate Steve Cook early on in the Championship clash at Ewood Park when defending a Yuki Ohashi through ball to Andri Gudjohnsen. There was a long stoppage for the goalkeeper to receive treatment with Hamer eventually leaving the pitch in the 18th minute. Blood could be seen pouring from Hamer’s face as he was pictured with tissues in both nostrils and with a cut below his right eye. Paul Nardi came on in his place and helped the R’s keep a clean sheet. Speaking after the game, Hamer provided an update on the injury. He said: “We need to have a scan quickly to know, but I think his nose is probably broken. Let’s see.”

If I read you correctly, he has started talking about himself in third person, and unsure about his nose. Definetly not starting against Norwich then...

He may have been kept on the ground as a precaution, and if its not a head injury and only a broken nose, I guess he could wear some sort of face guard to protect it. I've seen these worn when players get cheek bone fracture. But I'm sure he'd be pretty bruised and might have a thick head.
My gut feeling is that Nardi will play for the next couple of weeks and it's up to him whether he keeps the shirt.

We have occasionally flirted recently with the league position that we now find ourselves. Mid table, looking up. This has generally been followed by a bad run bringing us sharply back to earth. Norwich tomorrow. Piece of (Delia's) cake. Here's hoping this will be different.

Hamer was unconscious for at least two minutes. I'd imagine concussion protocols will not allow him to play irrespective of how he feels right now.
I see tickets are available "on the gate" tomoz (card only) if anyone wakes up and has an urge to go.

"A player in the EFL who is suspected of a concussion, which would include any player who loses consciousness, must be immediately removed from play and will miss a minimum of one competitive game (at least six days). The total number of games missed often depends on individual recovery and adherence to a strict, staged return-to-play protocol.
Concussion Protocol Guidelines
The mandatory process for a player with a suspected concussion, as outlined by The FA and the Premier League (EFL follows similar FA guidelines), is a step-by-step program that must be supervised by a qualified doctor:- Immediate Removal: If a concussion is suspected, the player must be taken off the field immediately and cannot return to activity that same day.
- Minimum 6 Days Out: No player is allowed to return to a competitive match for at least six days from the time of injury.
- Gradual Return to Play (GRTP): The player can only progress through a series of stages, with each step taking a minimum of 24 hours. The full process can take longer than six days if symptoms persist.
- No physical activity (relative rest for 24-48 hours).
- Light aerobic exercise.
- Sport-specific exercise.
- Non-contact training drills.
- Full contact training (only after an all-clear from the medical officer).
- Return to play.

Ronaldo would only have 200 appearance to his name then! But they'd find a way to overturn it if the sponsors kicked up a fuss.Originally posted by Abseits View PostVery interesting. Those protocols should apply to any player who goes down clutching his face or head after receiving a mild bump to his hip/bum/torso or other below-the-neck body part.
