The new signings would have been on the cards for some time prior to the Coventry game. Charlton plenty winnable. Will depend on bravery of team selection and mentality, both I would expect to be down to the manager. If we choose the best 11 we should win. For me that means along the lines of:

Nardi
Dunne Mbengue Morrison Davies
Hayden Varane
Dembele Saito
Burrell
Kone

I am assuming the new three can at least play say 60 mins as we are told they are fit and no changes in injuries elsewhere. Burrell playing just behind Kone and using his pace and running to cause some chaos. Morgan or Field can come on if either CM needs replacing. Likes of Kolli, Smyth and Sutton for the more forward players, maybe Bennie. Few defenders on bench. Even with the injuries we have we don't look bad.

There was no reason to drop Nardi at all this season. I am unaware of any official line from the club about why it happened. I suspect the club will double-down on their position and leave Walsh between the sticks. In fairness, I don't think Walsh could have done much about any of the 7 that flew past him. I'd start Nardi all day long but there is clearly something going on behind the scenes..

Have to say I've run out of patience with Dembele. I'd very happily drop him and loan him out this weekend. I'd have Smyth, Saito, Poku, Burrell, Chair, Kone, Frey and Kolli ahead of him on any of my team sheets. Our sick-list of injured players is only thing keeping him on pitch in my view.

Why do we have to bounce back from a slaughtering. Why can’t they just do what they are paid to do. Been no team spirit and no pride in a lot of these players for a long time. Now, that looks enticing and very sensible. Which is exactly why the computer will probably say no.

Joking aside I think I read that Koki's not had much of a run out in pre-season so I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the bench for this one instead. If he's good to go, however, then he's a starter for me as well.

I think the reason is financial. Either it's to try to increase Walsh's value or it's to replace Nardi so that Nardi can be sold. Nothing else makes sense, Nardi was excellent.

Issue is that Nardi appears to the naked eye to be superior to Walsh in all departments including that weakness, although a spreadsheet, especially one that predicts sell on fee in a year or three, may disagree. Right here, right now I know who I would like to see between the sticks.

No club in this division can carry a weak keeper - it unsettles the whole team and will cause dropped points, maybe 10 or so over 46 games. For us, that would be suicidal and almost certainly lead to relegation.

It's madness to chuck a rookie keeper into the firing line to "learn on the job". A GKs development should be via loans, the dev squad, cup games and any dead-rubber league games at end of season.

I believe Walsh does have potential. Just need to be patient for a season or two - chucking him in the deep end could potentially ruin him.

It's weird as when I'd seen Walsh play before I thought he looked a good shot stopper and didn't understand why he wasn't given a run out. But now his confidence looks shot and looked at fault for at least a couple of the Cov goals.

All in all a shame it feels like it's already over for him. Id love to know if the defence has faith in him or wants Nardi back. That would probably be his only saving grace at this time if the team was still with him.
