  • Nardi and Walsh

Great win today but what is going on with Walsh and Nardi. Why does Walsh keeping getting picked - he was static for the goal today, rarely comes for crosses and his kicking is sketchy to say the least?

I see Nardi and the new manager crossed paths briefly in the distant past, surely he’s not being held back because of that?

I honestly think it's money and "the project". Nourry needs to either improve the value of Walsh by making him a Championship regular or he wants to sell Nardi. Spreadsheet rubbish I think and trying to adhere to those completely unfair FFP rules. Meanwhile Ipswich spend £17 Million on one player with parachute money.

Completely agree Sleeps it's a disgrace really. I think this hole parachute payment is a ridiculous way to resolve the fact that championship players are earning premier league wages. What the FA should be doing is inserting a clause into every premier League player, where if they go down a division then so does their salaries by 60% and completely scrap these artificial payments
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Parachute payments are another poison introduced into football's bloodstream by the Premier League. It's simple; if you get relegated from the PL and you'll be financially troubled then you have to sell players, just like every other club has to. As it stands, clubs coming down sell players *and* get parachute payments which horribly distorts the competitive nature of the Championship.

Walsh signed a new contract in the summer and I was told today that he only agreed to sign it if he'd be Nos 1 keeper this season.

Nardi is back up this season so get used to seeing Walsh in goal for the whole season.

I don't get what people are watching.
Walsh took crosses yesterday that Nardi wouldn't. Walsh looks edgy which is understandable with all the comments against
            him.
He wasn't at fault with the goal imo.
But I think nardi will have to be recalled because the lad is getting hammered every game.
If the defence in front of you is so porous which it is then it's a very difficult job.
Nardi will be the same so let's get him back in.

I cannot see that is true.
No way would Nourry put up with a what has been a back up player laying down demands

There were a few shakey moments witn Walsh yesterday, but on the whole I thought he had a tidy game. His kicking was better and he made some decent saves. Both Walsh & Mbengue were more composed than against Preston. Walsh is new to the first team, so give him some time to settle and mature.....

A young back up player who has done his apprentership. Nourry has said he wants young players blooded to help them become better plsyers. Nardi is 32 yrs next May and we're going with the younger keeper who will be more sellable. He was fine yesterday, just let him settle and he's mature with every game.

Can’t see a lad demanding to be number 1 he’s either good enough or not good enough for the jersey nardi more composed on the ball imo both not great coming off line for crosses and barely a modern day keeper in any leagues makes a save with a catch.

even in Coventry debacle I’d only have him a fault for maybe 1 goal rest was team being pony

will he become a x million pound keeper no idea unless he plays will nardi doubt it either

Im not sure how it works, but I think clubs do chose a designated nos1 keeper. Im sure I've heard that before. But that doesn't mean he wouldnt get dropped if hes turn out to be a liability. I suppose players can demand (get a gentleman's agreement) to be promoted to being a regular starter. If the club didn't agree Walsh would have moved onto a club who would give him game time.

I wouldnt say Walsh's performance have been a disaster, maybe a little off with nerves from being the rookie? I think he'll settle down and be a decent keeper. Theres no immediate need to drop him so maybe look at it again after ten games????

If by fine you mean - Dropping simple crosses at his feet , kicking the ball straight out , or straight back to their keeper, taking an absolute age over everything he does, needing a drink before every goal kick, being hopelessly out of position on a few crosses inc their goal - then yes he's fine. He is a good shot stopper but so is Nardi.

I get that he is due his time, but Nardi was close to being many peoples player of the season last season - it does seem odd for him to have fallen so dramatically out of favour.

Some good points there and Im not blindly supporting Walsh. In fact it wouldnt bother me if Nardi played.

Yes, he did drop two that I saw, but quickly recovered. Yes, he did kick out and it went straight to their keeper. He did take time with his kicking, but was that Julien's instructions so players could get into their forward positions? Their goal looked very soft, but was he really out of position that much or just a very positioned shot? But I couldn't say hand on heart that you're wrong to criticise him for the goal. I dont think it should have gone cross him from what looked like a very lame shot.

But he is our nos 1 keeper and I dont think his performance was poor enough to drop him. He's got his run in the team and hopefully errors will be less and less after each game. Im sure JS will drop him eventually if he starts costing us points. But there were plently of players out there yesterday who cost us at Coventry and Walsh wasn't one of them.

See where we are when we're around game 10-15.

Tbh if a cb makes a error a gk can get them out of it if a gk makes an error it’s a goal 99/100 at pro level you got 3 gk making a case for no1

Trafford at city huge error last week Allison Liverpool did same this cb fb etc far more ability to play out from the back at a higher level than our mob the fascination of playing from the back has filtered into lower level of football to break the so called press, let’s be realistic a lot of the time as fans were sh!tting bricks watching it waiting for the error rather than the reward usually

let’s see if city stick with Trafford v Brighton today of shatter his confidence today and put Allison back in goal

pretty much all on here agree Nardi playing wise not done much wrong and see errors in Walsh hope he settles in and whoever is gk coach can sort issues out
