Yep Charlton will feel hard done by.
But if Wigan won their appeal yesterday Barnsley will be cheated.
Maybe the fairest solution is for Wigan to be cleared, but Wednesday and Derby to be docked enough points to relegate them, so Charlton and Barnsley stay up.

Agreed, Wednesday and Derby should both be relegated in place of Charlton and Wigan. Won't happen though. Hopefully the EFL will try and improve their governance as a result of this fiasco.

As Buffalo posted on here a while back, the whole thing needs to be scrapped and another way of doing it be found.
This way just blatantly favours the biggest clubs, but that is because of how the people in charge are interpreting the rules.

Best way is a fresh start, say from 2022 to allow any lingering cases or situations to be dealt with.
Sheff wed sold their ground to themselves basically too late to be included in the accounts the year they needed it, was good discussion on talksport about it this morning.
Could start a new system earlier if all clubs agree to some sort of auditing now which may result in fines for some clubs who have broke the rules, it won't happen and the circus will continue, championship was described on the radio today as a casino of 24 high stake players with only 3 possible winners.

I've just read the BBC article about Sheffield Wednesday and they didn't actually rule on the dodgy sale of their ground, only that they included the money from the sale in the wrong year's accounts. That leaves it completely open for Villa, Derby etc. to get away with it.

Not sure it achieves its goal?...It achieves the exact opposite, we're financially crippled by it for 10 years.

Agree Dave, the system is a farce and is weighted heavily in favour of the big clubs (whichever division they happen to be in). A simpler an fairer way is obviously to allow a fixed budget for wages and transfer fees each season - a bit like the Fantasy Football rules. That way every club has a reasonably even chance, but the big clubs carved it up in their own favour so that it keeps them at the top.

If Derby are found guilty as charged there is no point the 12 point deduction being this season as that isn’t a punishment! The season has ended so if found guilty it has to be next season for the deduction!

Sheffied Wed had a much bigger budget than us but finished below us in the league. Just goes to show how well we did on our small budget. Individual games can hurt when we lose but over the season we did brilliantly.

As an American, I have always been fascinated with the USA's reluctance towards socialism, yet american sports use socialist ideals like salary cap, hard caps, wage caps, in sports. Yet in most of Europe, Socialism is accepted (more than the US in the sense of Healthcare and some other institutions) yet Football is a capitalistic free-for-all. The large eat the small, always.
Maybe I am wrong in my assessment, but I feel that UEFA should be regulating wages/transfer fees/agent fees with alot more scrutiny. But I guess that would require UEFA and each countries FA's to not be a corrupt pile of ####.

Unfortunately that could result in small teams being at the top of the league and Sky would be less likely to see top of the table clashes like Burnley v Brighton having great viewing figures and they lose on advert revenues. I do.like the idea but still think that only spending a mix percentage of a clubs turnover is better rather than a fixed budget. What we have now is fine but they dont have the balls to administer it properly. The threat of breakaway leagues allows hangs over the administrators. But we still get to see Leicester and Wolves do well in the Prem and Brentford and Millwall in the Championship. Personally I never had any issues with Jack Walker spending his life's savings on his home town club.
