Jeff. Look up summer 2012 signings and it makes you want to cry reading the names and where they ended up. And more importantly how little we got back.

You have to factor in the wages of the high earners we brought in and have still been paying over those 3 years. Then there's the amortisation of the original cost of those players. Up front spend, but spread over the period of their contract. It's not just a case of money in and money out.Originally posted by Hitman34 View Postyour allowed to spend 39 mil over 3 years, we have spent at a guess 3-5 mil in those 3 years.

Brentford's owner happens to run a betting company which specialises in using (shocker) statistics to provide them with information to place bets successfully. Guess what else he uses those statistics for? Buying players from lower leagues who are underpriced and then using the same statistics to determine when they're overvalued by buying clubs and making the call to sell them high. Their scouting system is made up of eyes and algorithms. For a club with the revenue levels us and them are able to produce, this is really the only way to survive long term.Originally posted by 1973 ranger View PostBrentford have been a top half team since promotion from league 1 and are in the same league so how are they so competitive?"What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. FFP has basically consigned us to League 1 for the long term. A club can buy a league to be in if it has the revenues to sustain it there. We are no longer a realistic Championship member based on our ability to afford to be in it.
It shouldn't really be a shock, but as the season wears on and we get closer and closer to the drop and we spend less and less and sell more players in January, we'll be nice and ready for the inevitable. We are a basket case without the means, brains or resourcefulness to ever truly compete at a meaningful level again. We've been sunk by ineptitude, greed and delusion.
It's a sad day and has been for a while now.

What needs to be understood is that the only thing that would have saved us from this situation was spending how much we did when we were in the Prem. If we dropped back into the champ under all circumstances, we'd have ended up at this exact spot no matter what because we aren't revenue generating. If however we were in the prem for longer, TV money would save us and we would be far, far away from this. As soon as we got into the champ, with a stadium like ours, we were put into a position of guaranteed failure because of the rules designed to protect us.Originally posted by acricketer View PostFFP has basically consigned us to League 1 for the long term. While the way we spent the money in the prem proved to fail us and a good portion of that blame does need to fall on TF, he also took a lot of flak for 'just wanting to get his hands on a site for the stadium' as if that was some malevolent goal, when in fact, it was the only thing that would save us and as incompetent as people may think he was at running this club, his priorities weren't as negatively skewed as they were made out. Now, I'm no TF apologist, he made a lot of mistakes and took on a lot more responsibility than I think he could handle, but we're screwed no matter who our owners are. We're screwed because the infrastructure of the club gave us little chance of success at all. We have a chance now to maybe restart the methods, look at new ways of applying ideas and growing, getting rid of the pride that's held us back and looking at other clubs of similar size to see what success can be made of and following those guys, while applying our twist to it.
Amit can take us forward but he's in a different league to the one he pulled us out from many years ago."What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. A realistic take on how we are where we are. I think football has moved on and left us behind.Originally posted by nasser95 View Post

The small local club is a dying breed. You wanna move up? Get a massive stadium or be prepared to overspend and risk losing everything.Originally posted by acricketer View Post

Some of you "lads" will remember this ad from the 80's or 90's.
I'm thinking the next time the milk people do this type of thing you can swap Accrington Stanley for Queens Park Rangers....sad sad state of affairs
"Exactly!" Enjoy watching this iconic milk ad from the 80s which pays 'tribute' to Accrington Stanley (we're sure they'll forgive the little tyke!) and Ian R...

I know mate, it really could be us. The league are partly responsible for our predicament. I keep saying it but it's trueOriginally posted by 1973 ranger View PostDave. It would be funny if it was near the truth.
We are not able to compete with teams in our division fairly and never will, it's a closed shop structure.
