It's nit-picking different levels of insults tbf, it may not be explicitly racist (and the discussion about whether anti-Semitism is a religious or racial thing is a complicated one), but unless you're trying to point out the rotund obviously Jewish looking gentleman in a crowd of people, I can't see how that phrase could be meant any other way than an insult.

And, however inappropriate, all private comments. No act was involved. I don't think a fella, having apologized, ought be hung for that.
