Agree. As much as I like Joey, you can't build a 'premiership' midfield around him, that's my opinion BUT £75000 a week is a ridiculous amount to warm a bench.

Agree, but I'm afraid that would have to be the way of things if better players arrived. I would hope that Redknapp wouldn't feel obliged to play him purely because of his massive wages.

There is no chance we're offering him 75k a week. No chance. He will be 32 in a couple of weeks. I'm not sure he's worth 50 tbh.

If he wants to stay then that's great, but I don't feel like we owe Joey anything tbh; if we get better midfielders then he should be benched, I'm sure he'll get some gametime regardless.

Love posts like this. One game in and already posts like this. Watching Yaya today and he's been pony. Wonder what the city fans will be saying tonight about him. Yawn!!

Surely a average premiership player is what we should be aiming for? We are trying to establish ourselves as a average team aren't we? Or we expected to win this league?

Joey Barton is one of our best players who puts his heart and sole into every single game and probably clocks the most miles per game than any of our players.

We are only one game in and all he did wrong was a few bad corners.

Am I the only one who thinks fans just need to chill a little?

best player we have at the moment easy.

we need him more than he needs us.

hate to say it but its the truth

He is not our capt, clint is club capt ( bit like glen roeder was towards the end of our time with us) and harry says he will choose his match day capt match by match. Says to me harry is either worried that joey might do a joey and that he will have to make someone else capt (prob rio) or that he is uncertain barton will be first choice all season.

Two of his corners gave us our best chances to score yesterday. Keep him on corners duty. Oh and he clocked the most mileage of any player on the pitch.
