Disagree surrey, Welbeck is a very good player. Underrated technically and he's got a good brain - can play nice one touch stuff and is useful off the ball as well as on it. Been England's best player for the last few years. He's never played up top consistently at Utd so I wouldn't worry about his goals/games ratio. Could easily do a Sturridge at another club...

I reckon Welbeck is good enough to displace Remy in our starting line up. Would pay 15M all day long.

But I doubt LVG will sell. He loves young players and Welbeck is currently the only Mancunian near the first team

I'm surprised he is rated so highly on here by some - he has always been the typical "5 chances to score 1" striker for me. Yes he works hard, but there is very little end product with him. For £14m, I think Hull are getting their pants pulled down a bit, which is mitigated only by them pulling Southampton's pants down for Long.

If we were linked with a striker who averaged a goal about every 4.5 games (at a club that creates a lot of chances by the way) everyone would be saying that Harry needs his head checking....because it's an English player, hyped in the football media and currently on the books at the biggest club in the country he's an outstanding signing. Would he improve us? Probably. Is he worth £14m? No bloody way. I'd expect 15 goals a season for that kind of money.

Maybe Rio will give him a call and get him to come on down!

Though if Rio could do that, I'd rather he called Hernandez....£1m more and much better striker.

I do agree with this as he is not played as a striker at United.

Personally though, I think Hernandez is a better out and out goalscorer/poacher and Remy is actually better than both.

Remy & Hernandez are cut from the same cloth. They score goals but don't contribute much to the team's overall play.

Welbeck is from the same group of Utd youth players as Pogba, Morisson, Cleverly etc. They smashed it at youth level, playing 1,2 touch intelligent football that Welbeck thrives off. At Utd he's had to play second fiddle to Rooney, RVP & Hernandez, and this Utd team haven't played nice football for years. Look how Sturridge improved when he got games centrally - Welbeck can definitely replicate that.

And who's been better for England in recent years? Rooney has been shite as our #10 and created nothing. Sturridge hasn't really delivered. Gerrard has been finished for years. Welbeck's got 8 in 26 from the wing in a defensive England side. Only Lallana & Ox have had as positive an impact, and they haven;t really been around the first team too much.

Will get a guaranteed 15 goals if played up front and worth 15M ALL DAY LONG in a market where Long is 12M, Lukaku is 28M and Deeney is 10M. But they won;t sell him, I expect him to improve a lot this year under LVG's tutelage.

I don't think Wellbeck is under-rated technically - I just think football fans who understand the game know an over-hyped player when they see one....his all round game is really quite poor, his first touch and shooting ability in particular are nothing special. I wouldn't let him clean Remy's boots.....As for the £14m price tag - Bony (16 league goals last season) is available for only a few million more. Not saying we'd get either of them (especially Bony), but if I had £15-20m to spend on a striker I know where I'm parting with it...and it wouldn't be on Danny Wellbeck.

Totally agree with this post, I've seen far more off Welbeck than Remy and I like what I see. If I had a choice I'd take Welbeck over Remy, I don't think we've seen the best of him yet and United would be stupid to sell him.

He is held in high regard by football fans who have watched him play and think he looks decent it really is that complicated to understand. Why some people can't accept that people opinions are purely footballing based is beyond me.

You're looking at this the wrong way round. A player like Welbeck is often underrated in terms of what he could deliver for a club like us as your average QPR fan only ever sees him and thinks of him in his Man United context, where he compares unfavourably to Van Persie, Mata, Rooney etc. We've all got United fan mates who will slate players like this, and yet he would be a superb signing for Hull.

See also, Michael Carrick. Or look at the stick Gareth Barry used to get for being the poor relation to Yaya Toure. Then he pops up at Everton anchoring a top six side.

Good points by stationcafe above - predictably laughed at by the hapless Nick who just can't be right about anything, ever - though I's probably still take Remy over Welbeck (just). It's a close one though, and the Chicarito comparison is very apt.
