Hmmm. £4 million for a 29 year old who will likely be 32-33+ at the end of a contract he'd sign and therefore have little or no sell on value... Sounds perfect for us....

Getting the right players now who will help sustain premiership football and all the riches that brings is payment in itself. If they have no sell on at the end of their contract, but we've achieved this, so be it as we'd have brought in hundreds of £millions.

The alternative, may be buy younger on 3-4 year deals, we lose prem football and all it's weatlh, but we get to sell the players on for a few £million......

I would hope the club were to buy some younger players, but also older experienced ones too, as I agree, it is more imprtant to sign players who can keep QPR up (although of course old or young, there is no garauntee), than it is to have a sell on value.

QPR need to stay in the Premiership and build up the new training ground and youth set up as well as the new stadium to make progress, so a short term fix with signings is possibly the better way to go.

Williams aint exactly over the hill too so definitely a good signing who could easily play at the top level for the next 3 years maybe for years imo.

Not sure I get the logic that Williams is a better option than either Lescott or Ferdinand even on economic grounds.

Williams would cost say 4 million plus wages at at least 60k per week on say 4 year contract =16.5 million total. Whilst decent at 6'0" he isn't the dominant CB we need to play alongside Ned.

Lescott is a free so would probably accept a 3 year contract even at 70k per week that =11 million. Once cost city 22 million is left footed so gives balance at the back, bigger at 6'2" and too many a better player.

Ferdinand is also a free and would accept a 2 year contract even at 80k per week that=8 million. Top player who still has a lot to offer and played in all Man U big games last year.

Whilst the wages are speculative you get the gist, personally would take Ferdinand and think either Lescott or Williams would be good signings but Lescott certainly better bet on many levels than Williams.

Mate if we offered Ferdinand a 2 year deal on 80k a week someone at the club needs sacking. We don't have to pay these stupid wages any more especially to a 36 year old. I'm sure the club won't offer these sort of wages until we can afford too ie when we fill 35 k stadium.
I rate lescott and Ferdinand but Williams could be a mainstay in the team for the next few years where Ferdinand we might get 1 year and lescott 2. Can't see Williams on more than 50 but more like 40.

Have you got a source for your figures? Williams would never be on 60k. You've learned nothing from our 12/13 season if you're pining Rio/Lescott or players of their ilk. By November they'll have a combined age of 68, they're not hungry and have nothing to prove, and are completely inappropriate for a club the size of QPR. We've been here before, in the words of the joey baron: "we can't be a club where good players come to die anymore".
