The problem I see is why is there a need to go public with an internal matter? Do they want the guy to receive a ton of abuse and then give in to handing it over? Seems a very unfair, bully boy tactic from the club, of whom's media team has been impeccable up until now.

Especially with two memebers of the team coming out and neither explaining how will having the @QPR handle would actually be beneficial. Obviously there's room for assumption, but it doesn't seem like a big deal to go public about.

People cannot - 'Sell' twitter handles as twitter owns everything on and regarding twitter.

This isnt like a 'URL' and Twitter cannot simply change rules if the twitter handle is being used regularly.

just want to let you know mate that this is completely incorrect. officially you might correct. but unofficially, many people squat on twitter handles just like domains and then "sell" them in a private transaction.

That would explain any reluctance to purchase then, if it can be taken away by twitter on a whim.

But if you're squatting breaks the twitter t's&c's (e.g. having a handle for @Nike and posting information about Nike clothing so it creates confusion around whether you're the official Nike twitter account or not) then you can have it taken off you and given to the "legitimate" person/business.

Not necessarily.

This is why Twitter use the blue verified icon next to any official account of a well known person or organisation. @officialQPR has this. @QPR does not, so everyone can immediately see that it is not official.
