  • Attendances

I have supported the R's since 1965. One thing that have always tried unsuccessfully to understand is the number of fans that attend Loftus Road. Even during the best years in Rangers history, the 70's, it seems that attendance at Loftus Road could not get higher then 25k. And during one unforgettable season (1975/76) we were so close to be crowned champions of England. However, it was only at the last game against Leeds (won 2-0) that we manage a big crowd of 35k. Keep in mind that football grounds were not fully seated. For most of the years after, the average attendance was between 14k to 17k.
My point is this. I am mentioning a period of nearly 50 years, during which time, the young supporters grown up, have had children of their own and these kids were expected to become Rangers fans. Its about 2 generations. How come that the core of fans stayed always at the same levels. In 50 years, it should have increased significantly. Maybe lack of success? Children not following in their parents footsteps? If the owners are aiming for a bigger Stadium, Rangers fans must ensure to fill it up. I managed to influence my two boys and although they are not as keen as I am, however they like the R's and do get sad when things are not so good. So one becomes three. I expect that some 14k or 17k that goes to Loftus Road on permanent basis, should have made a significant difference to that static numbers!

Yes do die, however on normal circumstances they may live to see their children get married and also become grand parents.

the population is on the move, the days when families stayed in the same area for generations are well and truely over
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross

          I don't. I'm invincible.

I've had at least 25 chain letters telling me I will die if I don't send onto 10 people. I never send them on.

            A top thread this

I have often wondered what we could pull on a regular basis. 30k at Cardiff, 7k at Sheffield similar figures for cup games at Villa and Man Utd that the fans will turn up and are there.

Barnsley on a Tuesday night the season we went up saw the best part of 2k for a trip in Yorkshire midweek. Were not a massive club but I think we are bigger then our attendances at home suggest. We need to find a way of pulling the dormant supports week in week out to home games. I think if we were competitive we would comfortably pull 25k and for the big games at a push 30k which is decent enough

some on here would have new supporters do a written exam on the history of the club before they were allowed in.

Yeah strange innit,i brought my 3 boys up on the R's even had season tickets for all of them, and only one now goes on a regular basis with me,the other 2 still follow the team and I guess when we make a Cup Final or play offs we regularly sell out our allocation and I guess these extra tickets go to these "distanced" supporters,my 2 put it down to finances and like to spend there hard earned on other things !!!

Took my lad who's 22 now, to every home game from the age of six to about 12. He had every kit for every season as well and was Rangers mad, but when he went to 'big school', he come home one day and said 'dad I love rangers but I'm arsenal'. Broke my heart, but he was one of the only R's at the school and we were really shite during them times and he really had to endure some proper **** that I forced upon him. Probably selfishly on my part, I don't know, but he just changed and there was nothing I could do about it. Well except for never love him in the same way ever again even to this day. Ha ha.

Nah, going to the rangers for half his life there was no way that was ever going to happen. He still hates them to this day. I never go with him when we face the gooners though, and never would. Though he has been back to the bush to watch us a right good few times though, thank god.
