Republic of Ireland is not part of the British Isles.....so they MUST be foreign by definition, so not really pedantic!

Actually, Ireland IS part of the British isles, but not part of the UK of GB/NI, so yes, they are foreign.

Then again, to me, the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish are Johnny Foreigners too

That's what I said. NI is part of the UK of GB/NI, but the Republic of Ireland isn't. Therefore it's foreign.
