West, Redknapp did the negotiations with Ferdinand and it was all agreed so if it doesn't happen then I am guessing only Ferdandes could pull the plug at this late stage. If that is the case would suspect it will have bigger impact than just the Ferdinand deal!

Love the way the Mail implies that Rio has made a huge sacrifice for reducing his wages from £200,000 a week. I'm guessing that was a reasonably long term contract to cover the period when he was considerably younger and still a regular England international. A footballer who reaches 35 (and is almost 36) is a lot less valuable commodity than one who is 30, and wages should reflect that. I'd be happy with Rio but it has to be at reasonable wages (or linked to number of games played) and it has to be balanced with a number of younger signings. We can't stuff the team full of Harry's tried and trusted old boy's club from back in the day.

Well you say the money is down to the money men, by the same token Harry would probably say the footballers are down to the football men - him and his coaches, not us.

I don't blame you for being against a revolving door of aged crocks, all sensible fans are totally fed up with it and in this respect Redknapp has been at least as bad as Hughes. I would just caution against assuming that all old player are bad acquisitions and all our signings will be old this time. A centre back pairing of Rio and Lascalles or Caulker, for instance, could be a really good balance. If its Rio and Dunne or Rio and Clint, however, I wd agree with you entirely.

Except it is our concern because there will be a budget and the more of it that goes on Rio the less there will be to spend on others. If, for instance, we were not - reportedly - offering Rio £80,000, might we have been able to match Palace's offer to Caulker? All linked.
