I suppose it was obvious from the moment Gerrard said that it really would be different this time and they would all be up for it, that in fact, it genuinely was going to be the same old inept performances from an England team when it really matters.

Some pretty awful individual performances out there tonight. Very few can come off feeling they have performed at anything like an acceptable level.

Almost impossible to chase the game after that defensive error at the start of the second half.

Italy could just let us blow ourselves out, which happened about 65 minutes in. Physically wrecked after that.

Younger players did well, old guard were utter sh*te even given the conditions.

Hope they can recover physically and mentally before the Uruguay game, because there were signs of real class in that first half. I just hope that apparently undroppable players, are not quite as undroppable for the next game.
