Unbelievable we'd appeal. As others have said, out of control, excessive force, reckless. Ticked so many boxes. If it'd been on one of our players, we'd expect and demand red card.

I agree with some others on here, Cirkin's red wasn't deserved, he got the ball. Is it worth appealing it given that its a 3 match ban?

My opinion: He was lucky who missed the man. It was an Awful tackle and has to learn from the outcome. He`s got a few flaws in his defensive play as well and need to get his act together.

Didn’t know he was Latvian. Thanks. Nobody could reasonably say it wasn’t a red card. The dynamics of a football tackle are fluid and complex and things can easily look worse than might have been the case, subject to the separate movement of 2 individual forces. The players need to be aware of this unfortunate outcome and play wisely in such situations, especially where, as you mention, that player has just made a mess of controlling the ball.

Sliding/lunging in with studs up about a foot off the ground is a red even BEFORE he makes contact with ball/man/thin air. "Winning" or touching the ball is specifically mentioned as irrelevant in the laws. - high velocity lunge = red card. Additionally, wiping someone out with a trailing leg IS a foul and will move into "endangering an opponent" territory because of the distance travelled to launch the tackle, the excessive force and sliding in without full control.

Put it this way...there is NO way on earth the club will appeal it - it would 99.9% get rejected as "frivolous" and result in an extra game being added to the ban.

It was a dumb idiotic challenge that arose from his own poor control and touch that let the ball get away from him. You can normally see the incoming foul before it happens when players wildly chase or overreach for their own heavy touches and Cirkin was no different here. In fairness to the ref, he gave himself a bit of time to think - he didn't just whip the card out and presumably he went through a mental checklist of factors and ticked off excessive force, out of control and endangering an opponent and sent him off.

Sort of unrelated but I notice Cirkin has been called up by Latvia so won't be getting much rest over next 3 weeks either.

Maybe slowed down with VAR angles Id have another view. But I can see why the Ref gave it, because at first look it appeared the ball ran away to create that 50/50 following by what looked like an a uncontrolled lunge at the ball. The way the player went down probably swayed the decision towards the red.

It wasn't as clear cut as studs up, coming down from height and the knee movement creating a stabbing motion of the leg. It could easily have been a yellow that early on the game.

The player made the most of that contact for sure.

I was pleased with our desire and spirit to fight our way back into the game ,. can't see enough of the angle to see if it warranted a red or not.....Ref was poor , most of all his positional play was poor often he had or let players crowd him .

Ref could've waved 6 red cards at Cerkin - it was a shocking challenge.

So what does ANY home team do in second half when they're 2 goals and 1 man down to a shite team ? I guess the answer is "have a go". So the 2nd half is what I'd expect.

What has pee'd me off in recent games has been the tepid cautious slow toothless approach.

Why can't we play with a "go for it" mindset every game, and particularly at home - it shouldn't take extreme circumstances to coax us out of our shells.

Hopefully that second half will become our template for the next phase of games after the break.

It wasn't a shocking challenge - he got the ball first and the follow through was unfortunate - the players reactions 8 players swarming an inexperienced ref. the lino didn't even flag! the ref gave the red card from about 10yds away surrounded by preston players.

borderline red but even so the ref had a shocker.

As for our tepid play - their first goal came from our attack and an individual error then the red card - but we stayed in the game and the 2nd half was incredible . you really couldn't tell that we were man down.

Yes at the start of the day a draw agains preston but considering here we were after r 20 mins it is probably one of our results of the season and says a lot about this group of players and the attitude they have. something we haven't seen for a while at HQ.

Even the Sky commentator wasn’t sure it was a red. I’m not sure what made it a red, not over the top, no strong contact with other player, just a very loud ow that means player was faking and a bunch of pne players yelling at the ref

20 seconds. 1 down. 15 minutes down to 10. 2 down at H/T, how did you think it would go. Crowd went wild when we equalised and team cheered of the pitch. Superb second half against all odds.

Dont disagree but surely these are games where three points should be expected if we are looking to achieve something better this season. The second half showed we were more than capable so thats where my disappointment lies l suppose
