Hughes close to deciding new captain

QPR manager Mark Hughes is close to naming a new captain.

Hughes has been considering a number of candidates to succeed Joey Barton, with the likes of Clint Hill, Anton Ferdinand and Ji-sung Park all wearing the armband so far during pre-season.

The R’s boss plans to make an announcement when his squad return from a visit to Germany, where they will play two matches.

Hughes said: “I keep moving it around and will continue to do that for the next two games.

“I’ve got a mind on who will eventually have it. A lot of the guys are making good claims for it and it’s good we’ve got leadership in the group.”

I trhink of the current squad he will see Ryan Nelsen as the best Captain candidate, but the downside is that he;s a new player so MH wants to be sure it wouldn't put any old hands noses out of joint, and of course the fact he's been tied up with the Olympics and i don't think even had a single training session with us....

I think someone else should be the captain of the team at least for a new season.
Park just got here and he's just started to blend in with a teammates and team's strategy.
so give the armband to somebody else!

This just means he has still yet to decide.

I think he will want it to be a new signing and I think he wants it to be someone that has acheived things, that may be easier to swallow for players that have been around a while.

So I think it will be Park.

Park can lead by example yes, but his grasp of English is not very good so he's hardly one to communicate and get the team going when needed so i don't think it should be him personally. Of the current group if he's planned to be a starter it should be Nelsen as proper captain material... been there, done it for prem club and country etc etc etc and MH had him as captain before (assuming he was when MH at Blackburn?).

Of the candidates:

Park - for reasons above i don't think
Hill - Won't start every game, if any once signings completed
Anton - Not vocal enough for me
Adel - Can't see MH giving the role to such a type of player
Diakite - not been mentioned but is the perfect type of player for captain, but i'm not sure if his English is good?
Nelsen- as above

I love Park ,but Captain? No.
he accomplished amazing careers
but he has not enough English for leading club and he is not outgoing style.
i just want him to appear almost every match and get many points!
maybe next year??

May be Nelson, but he is only on a one year contract (I think) and is going to be 35 then. So depends ig MH wants a long term captain or not, as Nelson is not necessarily going to start every game in a years time.
