There is only one Roland Browning, Cunning!!!

Cast your mind back to the 08/09 season, A Villa 0 QPR 1, league cup. Matt Connolly right back, marked Ashley Young out of the game!

What's all this too weak to be a centre back BS....? The lower leagues are much more physical than the prem and he's done fine in them, besides, you aren't allowed to touch anyone in the prem these days without it being a foul. Its much more important to read the game well and he is excellent in that regard.

Connolly worries the life out of me. He's a good footballer but not a good defender.

he was good for a couple of years and he had the blip last year and a lot of fans got on his back, you could see it got him, i thought was totally unjust, also dont think it helped when he was dropped when he was was part of that defence that had done so well, i felt at the time hed been punished quite harshly

im sure he will come good hes too good a footballer to not

You can say all you like about Connolly but he is part of one of the best defences the championship has seen. Connolly has to deal with poor players around him like Orr an Hill, I like Hill a lot but he is only a good Champ Left back at best. Gorkss was at fault a lot more than Connolly and never got dropped no wonder his confidence went.

Connolly needs to be a bit more aggressive and I think he'll be fine, most of the mistakes made by him or Gorkks comes from floundering, I honestly don't trust any of the defence to competetantly play the ball out to feet.

Also, He is too easy to get past by the stronger players and when they get past him he gives away silly fouls. We conceded atleast 5 last season from needless fouls by MC.

He instils no confidence and is lucky to have Kenny behind him to cover for his mistakes.

If That lump Ian Evatt can play in the PL, so can Matt Connolly.
Never thought I'd see the day I agreed so strongly with ya Paul!

I think because he had a couple of needless defensive errors last season. Some were not expoilted by the opponents. In the PL they will definitely be expolited.

Kingy, you must be looking for a row of some sort. That categorised list is a joke. Dyer and Kenny only making decent championship and HH and Hall as average championship players for a starters.

Obviously only my opinion, but for what its worth:

Kenny not PL potential? Surely 24 (I believe?) clean sheets last year means he must be in this category? And Dyer, yes been injured a while, but 33 England caps must mean he is PL potential. The word potential, IMO, must mean also that at least 1 defender should be included, what with us only conceeding 32 goals all season and all that?
