Yes lets keep referring to the same game in which Mancienne, who had left us for another club on loan, and after rejecting thre chance to join us, was below par. Despite that game, he'd been awesome for us, including a game at Ashton Gate that for once had opposing fans in AWE of one of our players, and again awesome for Wolves during his time there.

I dont want this to turn into an argument about Mancienne as the thread is about Connolly. If people on here really want to slate Mancienne though, I will happily back his corner as too many of you are scorned he didnt join us.

Agyemang is average, but I thought we all agreed he was a handfull for ANY defender. Hell he even gave Chelsea a rough time when we played them, and Im sure there defence is ****e too now yeah?

you can't judge players on one game, consistency is a major factor of a pro footballer, sorts out what level players play, Connolly as said has very steady games more often than not. Maybe not stand out but is very reliable at the back and all across the back to. Mancienne is a quality player though and will play for Chelsea, i think there both very exciting prospects.

Yeah Mancienne had the average Patrick Agymang in his pocket? Oh no wait a min he showed up all of Mancienne's weaknesses!

Just for the record, I used Mancienne as the measuring stick in which I compared Connolly too, I was NOT mentioning him in the hope we go after him again.

I do feel however that there is a slight bias towards Connolly from alot of people because he DOES play for us, has rarely had a bad game, and is of similar age ro Mancienne. And as i've stated before I DO like Connolly and rate him as a solid player. But, as we tend to do with any half decent youngster we have, I think our fans are going a little bit overboard with some of there comments regarding him.

Connolly is Not worth 5 million, and is yet to really have an outstanding display at CB. Solid? YES, but I cant remember a game last season where Connolly had a striker in his pocket to the degree that he made said striker look absolutely useless. Again Im open for people to give me examples of when he HAS done this as i may just have a short term memory!

How odd! Not sure what to reply to there
Can't see whats strange about it posting what i herd and wanted other peoples opinion, loads have replied and that's the idea of message boards, or thats what i thought anyway.

I think we need to forget Mancienne. He did a great job for us and we also did a great job for him. Good luck to him Maybe one day we might get him playing for us in the Prem.

As for Matty Connolly, I think he is an outstanding player. He has the physical strength alreayd, but is also an athlete in his build. He is quick, he has superb awareness and hisdecision-making, something which people often only notice when it goes wrong with a player (eg Bramble), is top notch. We need to build the defence around him and Gorkss. I know Stewpeas did ever so well, but if we are to move up a division I think Gorkks and Connolly are the pairing. Stewart is superb too except decision making lets him down and in the Prem you really do get punished. And that is where we want to be.

You didn't need to start your post with 'I rarely agree with your comments WeAre - but on this one' you could of saved the typing and started 'I agree totally'. Thanks anyway!

Mancienne is a good player but IMO i would have to say that Connoly is gonna be the better player in the long term as Mancienne does make the odd mistake whereas Connoly hasn't put a foot wrong since he arrived.
It is no suprise that prem teams are looking at him as he is a quality versatile player and if we sold we would have to sign at least 2 players to cover his loss!!;D

In my eyes I think that Connelly's reading and understanding of the game is fair superior to MM. He just is slightly following suit to the likes of other overrated chelsea reserves like Ben saha and Scott Sinclair, although I do think his attitude is much better than the latters. I just think you are overrated because it is the so called 'chelsea youth side'.
I rarely agree with your comments WeAre - but on this one I agree totally. I believe Connolly has the potential to go right to the top, not so much because of his ability on the ball but due to his all round awareness - the skill is clearly there and distribution will improve with age but his reading of situations is already top drawer. As you say big Pat tore MM to shreds earlier this season and whilst I think he is a good player I believe Connolly has a greater chance of playing for the full England squad in the future.....his only true barrier being the Club he plays for maybe.

I guess you didn't go to Southampton away, season before last. He was also shocking against us when playing for wolves. Ayemang roughed him up and he didn't want to know. He needs more muscle as he is too lightweight. So i'm glad you expected people to disagree because I certainly do!

Again I agree with everything you sa there.
All this rubbish about Mancinne in the England squad etc.
Who cares he will never sign for us and I'm glad because I wasn't that impressed with him tbh. Connolly for me has been more impressive than Mancienne.

Dont get me wrong, I like Connolly, and would much rather we sold somebody like Fitz Hall, but whilst I think he's solid enough and only 21...he's not impressed me in a way that Mancienne did.

Now I know i'll get stick for this and I fully expect people to disagree with me here, and dont think for a second im knocking Connolly because I do like him, but perhaps what im trying to say is I dont think theres anything "Special" about him like there was Mancienne. Mancienne WILL play for England one day, and thats something we could all see when he was with us. For me Connolly is simply a solid young defender. Not a bad player by any stretch but not better than the likes of Mathew Bates for Mboro, or even Ryan Shawcross of Stoke who are both about the same age.

I would HAPPILY take 3 Million for him, let alone 5. Would be a superb bit of business and could very easily be replaced. However I would prefer he stayed, if only to prove that we are no longer a selling club!

No chance, he is one of the hottest young prospects outside the premiership in my opinion.
