Some were saying Vine went up in there estimation aftere those comments. It might have been tongue in cheek, but the reality is Vine needs a new challenge.

TBH i have always thought joey was a racist term aswell... i dont think he has much of a chance here now so gd luck to the man up north, just needs the confidence and he will no doubt do a job for someone on the pitch that is!!!

As for the newspaper report get used to it... being top and in form comes at a price of bulls*** articles nearly every week!!!

For the avoidance of doubt, I was taking the ****. I do not doubt he meant Joey in the Deacon sense. He has become a bit of a **** (in the **** sense of the word)

This meltdown in relations twixt him and club/fans has been on the cards a good while now. Some will recall he lost the plot and rared up at some Rangers fan who dared criticise his (non) effort at the pre-Season friendly at Borehamwood. He's been a dead man walking since imo but no one seems willing or able (or cashed up enough) to send him on his way. Shame it ended like this but its over.

I'm 42 and remember the Blue Peter version very well but I was quite young then so I'm note sure Rowan, who would probably just be born by then, would be making a direct reference to it unless it has become part of our colloquial language.

We may all be suffering from cognitive dissonance here just because many of us are old enough to remember it's original insulting nature (including "eerrr...you've got fleas!!), and he appears to have fallen out of favour with our fans. However over here in Oz the term Joey Squad is often used to refer to the youth set up. A couple of recent articles highlighting this for you friends of clinking linkies!

So, in what context did Rowan mean it? There's only one person in truth that knows the answer to that question. All I'm suggesting is that it may be just as pertinent to consider a term currently used in football to refer to a youth squad, albeit not in the UK (but perhaps he was aware of its usage?) as opposed to an insult that, IMO was probably before his time, but of course does not suit our purpose when vilifying him!

Important thing for me is warnock clearly doesn't want him anywhere near the first team. This shows to me that he's not rated as a player and not the type of person he wants around. Shame because if he'd have shown some fight pre-season he may well have got an opportunity.
