Nothing wrong with building from the back.But ultimately to win games we need to score goals.All very well having a good defence that can keep out goals.If we concede 0 we have evry chance of drawing a game, but if the oppo score one, we need at least 1 goal to get 1 point.

Many people will call that a very negative approach to football.
Last season, if we conceded, you always wondered where our goals were going to come from, so you can be as tight as you want at the back, but without goals....you win nothing.

Also - teams should defend from the front backwards.Midfielders are vital now in knowing their defensive roles.

I'm not saying we don't need goalscorers. I just believe that a fitter side with a tighter defence has more chance of winning matches than the one last season. If we don't concede we only have to score once whereas last season if we conceded one we'd be lucky to get a point. If we conceded two then it was game over. Of course if we had goalscorers we could concede two and still have a chance of winning it but a tighter defence means there is less pressure for the strikers.

Anyway, who's to say that if we spend £500k on Orr it means we have £500k less to spend on a striker?

I played centre back in the ryman league and when you have nothing upfront and miss chance after chance that puts an enormous amount of pressure on the defence knowing 1 slip up or in stewarts case 3 or 4 will cost you very dearly.

I think I'm getting a bit misinterpreted, I totally understand the need to build from the back but the point I am trying to make is above all else goalies defenders etc the priority is a striker always has been.

To me it looks like we have a very limited budget again, I'd be very surprised to see us making outlays of any significant proportion on strikers now. Thus what funds have been made available I'd have blown on an out an out goalscorer as they cost the most, then there is the fans questioning the same thing constantly for 3 years, its getting tedious.

We both said sometime ago that we don't need to get promoted this season. What we really needed is to start building something and to clear out a lot of GP's mistakes. If the story on the BBC is true and that the likes of Pellicori and Vine are on their way out then great. If it means that some of the transfer budget has had to be spent to do so then fine. Hopefully this time next year the players remaining will all be there because Warnock wants them to be.

Same as....It helps playing in front of a goalkeeper who commands his area.Gives you more confidence.If you keep a clean sheet, you always remided the forwards to do their jobs...On the flip side....if our forwards scored two and we leeked three....

I can't see the point in signing Orr I'd sooner throw Josh Parker in at the deep end he looked good there against Newcastle when he come on. We also have about 4 other players who can cover at RB.

I know and I agree, though it would appear clearing out GP's mistakes is taking a little longer than some thought. I have always thought there is far too much work to do this season to get us up but as reiterate my main point the priority should have been a striker and I'm not talking about Mackie. Pre-season is practically finished for all this talk of getting players in early we have floundered, it would have been nice to get someone in early doors to gel with the squad.
