  • Leicester Deducted 6 points

    From Talksport

Leicester City have been hit with a six-point deduction.

An EFL statement read: "The EFL notes the decision of the independent Disciplinary Commission, appointed under Premier League Rules, which has confirmed that Leicester City FC breached the Profit & Sustainability Rules in the three-year reporting period ending with Season 2023/24.

"On consideration of all relevant factors, the Commission has recommended a deduction of six points.

"The EFL Board has met to consider the decision and determined that the sanction should be applied to the Championship table with immediate effect."

With the deduction coming into immediate effect, Leicester's points tally will drop from 38 to 32.

That means the Foxes will fall to 20th, but they sit clear of the relegation zone only on goal difference.

Glad this has finally been sorted, I thought it was going to be issued last summer.
As for the severity of the punishment, it seems as if they waited to see Leicester firmly out of the promotion picture before issuing the 6 point deduction. This still keeps them out of the relegation zone (just).
I would say that this was the best possible outcome for them. It gives them a fighting chance of staying up, though they may get dragged into a relegation dogfight if they don't start performing soon.

Seems a bit soft to me, only 6 points. I suppose it depends how big the overspend was though.

According to another report the overspend was £20m and the Premier League pushed for a 20 pts deduction!

There's no real repercussions for breaching these rules (these days!!) and I'm sure Leicester will stay up.

Tbh there’s no consistency in the penalty or fines etc and it’s fans that suffer as they are always the continuation of any football club regards of owner management in place

I’m sure Sheffield weds bury forest etc will look at the punishments with more interest but some clubs have to be whiter than white while others do as they please

The powers that be said they don't want 2 teams from the same division being relegated..
As it then makes the league less competitive...
Towards the end of the season the teams that are safe play like they are going through the motions....if Leicester had got 10/12 points they would be in trouble but I think they have enough ability to get out of it .

The punishment almost makes the risk taking worth it.

Yeah, you get the feeling the bottom 3 is already settled so this piddly 6pt deduction is pretty meaningless.
