Whichever way we got him we need to learn from it.
We bought him from the get-go. The "loan" was a bit of financial chicanery for FFP purposes. We basically bought him with a "nothing to pay for 12 months" deal. Suited Brighton too cos it got him out the building and got his wages off the books.
And to be fair to the club, I don't recall many of us moaning when the initial deal was announced - looked okay on paper at that point. BUT...... it's hard to believe he'd been a perfect model pro before joining us - surely there must've been some indicators of his character we could've unearthed? Maybe we were just darned unlucky though.
It was either his loan at Birmingham or Doncaster before us that he had a poor injury record but we have signed a lot of players with poor injury records in the last 10 years , i suppose sooner or later we were going to get dodgy one.
Maybe as a club we attract this type of player, SW Phillips , Samba Diakate , Sandro and Steven Caulker to name a few.

Several players coming back from injury. I doubt we'll sign 1st team players unless we sell.
I'm expecting several 16-8 year old signings. Seems our new strategy, pick up players released elsewhere.Comment

I agree.
CR mentioned in his last statement that in a previous role they pushed young players to the next level early. If our youngsters haven't developed into the first team squad by 20/21 yrs they'll be released. The nonsense we've had in the past when we've had 23 yr olds with a handful of cup games to their names are over. Not good enough by 21yrs you're out.Comment

Agreed. Get them on loan too. Alfie Tuck, 18, played 15 matches at Enfield. Vital to test them in 1st team games.

Got to be brave enough to play them though. Let's be frank, the above trio only got starts due to a lot of injuries, Varane/Madsen taking a long time to settle in and a diabolical 18 game run of form. I still think we came perilously close to overlooking Kolli and seeing him drift away this January (remember his no-show for team photos?).....
I really like the look of Bennie too - hopefully we can get him on for some more minutes too.
I do like fact we got Lloyd and Morgan off other clubs... 18 yr olds with a point to prove is deffo a seam worth mining.
Only downside is all these kids make me feel like a great-grandfather!

The fact we're giving these lads a chance at a young age could mean the best prem drop outs will be more inclined to come to us in the future.

They wouldn't want to get lost at another club for the second time. Better chance of making it with us.Comment

With rumours of Boro's interest in Jimmy, I wonder what fee we'd get if he left now before his contract expires in the summer.
Surely, we wouldnt get more than £1m for a him with ouly six months left on his contract? That works out to be £2m a season, or £6m valuation if he was on a three year deal.
Hopefully, he'll either sign an extension or get sold. It would be a disaster to see him leave for nothing in the summer.Comment

You can see he is enjoying himself and as a senior player he is good for the youngsters development around him.
Hopefully the delay is just due to ironing out the finer details.Minds Are Like Parachutes.

I wonder if it's already done and we are just trickling then announcements out to keep us in the press and fans interested as it's unlikely we will sign anyone new unless someone leaves at this stage.
Announcing chair before a tough match we lost was a bit of a genius play as it gave us something else to be happy about on a day the game didn't go our way.Comment
