Teams with Parachute Money this season

I always keep tabs on the parachute money teams, worth knowing who they are cos they're statistically THREE times more likely to get promoted than we are. Also, it got on my wick last season when commentators seemed to have a hard-on for plucky little Huddersfield doing so well. WTF!? They were still getting parachute money last season and had a clear advantage because of it. Watch them fall like a stone this season now they're potless like the rest of us.

Anyway, here are the teams currently in receipt of parachute money:

1) Burnley. In year 1 of 3 years of payments. Will get approx £40 mil this season.
2) Watford. In year 1 of 2 years of payments. Will get approx £40 mil this season.
3) Norwich. In year 1 of 2 years of payments. Will get approx £40 mil this season.
4) Sheffield Utd. In year 2 of 3 years of payments. Will get approx £35 mil this season.
5) WBA. In year 2 of 2 years of payments. Will get approx £35 million this season.

As well as this season's parachute money, Burnley, Watford and Norwich would have each trousered approx £100 mil last season for stinking up the prem.

The rest of the division, including us, receive about £7mil irrespective of final position in table.

Thats Why the EFL are trying to get rid of parachute payments altogether and make prize money based on position instead.

Why do Burnley get three years payments when Norwich and Watford only get two years? They all came down last season....?

The idea behind parachute payments was to stop clubs going under and keep them sustainable. But it hasn't worked and most clubs have relegation clauses in players and staff contracts. Especially the Yo Yo clubs. All it is doing is giving them money to make bigger signings.

Norwich / Watford especially, are living off parachutes massively. It's bonkers.

It's a difficult one because clubs that want to stay in the premiership cant attract the best players if they put relegation clauses into player contracts. To allow them to complete he parachute money is put in place to cushion the financisl blow to meet those contracts if relegated. The downside being they have better players in the championship and more likely to go back up.

Without parachute money they're likely to be nailed on for relegation from the premiership. And with it nailed on for promotion back to it.

Be damned if you do and damned if you don't

Most of the time they sell any players good enough for the Prem giving them even more money to attract top Championship players.

Parachute money has been invented to keep the Premier league a closed shop , that's why you are getting all these yoyo teames like West brom , Norwich , Watford etc.

Relegation clauses was all that was needed, parachute payments are unnecessary and just make it unfair on the rest of the division.

But harder to sign quality players to stay in the premiership. Would they want to be tied to wage reductions if other team members aren't up to it.

Mandatory relegation clauses forces lower ranked teams to sign lower quality players and make survival even harder.
