  • Alcon Tournament -Tunisia v Mali Referee

The ref blew for full time at 85 mins with Mali winning 1-0,after being told by players and officials that 90mins hadn’t been played he tapped his watch a couple of times and restarted the match.
At 89.45 mins he blows again for full time,Tunisia players and officials confront the ref and his assistants but they just turns a deaf ear and proceed to be be escorted off surrounded by security.
Surely the match will have to be replayed ?

A ref should always have at least 2 watches are on him . The mite make them play the remaining minutes behind closed doors

So that's what Michael Massi is doing in the F1 close season

Not greatest start to Afcon.... Duff ref, no goals and no fans. Early days but it needs to liven up. I have enjoyed the vuvuzuelas and the minimalistic TV coverage that does not get bogged down with umpteen replays or bother with loads of talking heads doing pre/post match punditry.

I actually still have a vuvuzuela - I might have a blast on it later.

And some TV pundits are implying that if you dont take this competition as seriously as the Euros you're racist - right right right?

Exactly - but it's not racist to be annoyed that an international tournament happens smack bang in the middle of our domestic season with no "international break" in said domestic league. The Euros would have got the same treatment if it had been played in January with no domestic league international window....The next world cup is similar but surely a domestic league break will occur then so not quite the same effect but annoying just the same having it midway through the domestic season.

He is a corrupt ref and had a ban against him a few years back for alleged corruption
apparently this Africa cup is full of corruption

Well those pundits can sod off, and that is why I only watch football on Hesgoal.com
I have supported Rangers for 55 seasons, since March 1969.

Seeing the empty stadiums makes me wonder if they'd be better off playing tournament in Europe. If it was held in UK they'd sell out virtually all games and I imagine it'd be a similar story in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Holland too. It'd definitely ameliorate the general antipathy towards the tournament.

Also having 24 teams in the finals is ridiculous - they should eliminate more minnows in qualifying . They could actually have 16 teams in a straight knockout tournament with a seeded draw to keep glamour teams apart.

Lack of fans and goals so far which makes it quite boring to watch.

I agree that a 16 team competition with 4 groups of 4 might be more enjoyable to watch, but even then there might still be a lack of goals (nothing new here, as it was like this when I started watching it in the mid 90s - a suggestion by African origin colleagues).

12 games so far - 9 finished 1-0, 2 were 0-0 and the opening game was 2-1. All in 12 goals and perhaps a lack of entertaining football to watch (not that I have tuned into many of these games - maybe 3 or 4).

Perhaps it is too hot for attacking football even in January.

Chair seems to be just a bench warmer.
                              not getting a look in.
