What is wrong with this "power grab"? Scum like Blatter, Platini, Infantini, Scudamore having "the power" is okay then? The current state of football is a disgraceful mess with blazers and agents syphoning off money in broad daylight. £100K per week wages are no longer enough for elite players - they want/need £400K per week now apparently. Virtually all the prem teams are losing money, combined losses over 5 years average £500 million per season. It is an utter shambles.
I cannot blame any clubs for deciding they can opt out of this madness and set up their own profitable competition out of the clutches of the clowns controlling things today. I actually find it hilarious watching EUFA undertaking to fight this breakaway and positioning themselves as the good guys and saviours of football, cheeky blighters!

It's been stated that the six are guaranteed £300m a season from the super league, so may be higher. In 2018 Liverpool made £152m from the premier league sky deal. If they're expelled from the premier league, they'll still double their money. Any drop in ticketing money won't matter financially, who are fans anyway!

Jamie Carragher got it right last night when he said that Man U have 1.5m fans worldwide and if they charged £1 per game for their tv channel they could generate billions each year.
This is obviously what the ultimate aim is for the owners of these clubs (they are all business men with the American/capitalist view of making lots of money).
It will be a bit like the MLS where there are more than 20 clubs split into Eastern and Western divisions with the winners of each in a play off final. There are no relegations. The clubs in the ESL will each charge a fee to view from their own tv channel (like we do with iFollow) and will just watch as their money tills chink with every viewer tuning in. They won't give two hoots about the domestic leagues they have abandoned.
I say let them go and good riddance. Football will survive and we will continue to support our clubs in a more even and open competition without the big giants dominating all the trophies.Comment

£75k a week players will be on £200k a week.
The issue isnt money, it's how they're using it.
Man Utd debt is from debt they put on the club so they could fund buying it. Cant see how thsts legal or ethical.
Spurs debt is the stadium, which if financed like a 25yr mortgage is hardly an unauthorised overdraft....!Comment

Y es, but as Dave58 the big guns will be back with some other way of trying to get much more money out of the game for themselves.
It used to be that clubs were owned by local people with money, now it is big businesses or billionaires looking for a way to increase their wealth. I don't know how to do it, but the German model of 50+1 being held by fans /trusts is the most likely way to get the game back to fans, but I doubt that will ever happen. Football is now a big global business and those at the top will get richer and ever more so dominant in the game.
If the younger fans are losing interest as Agnelli says, perhaps it is because it has become so predictable as to who will be contesting and most likely, winning the domestic titles every season. This is even more true in countries like Italy, Spain, Germany, England and France. Attendances in the Championship are generally very good for a 2nd tier division perhaps because it is a more open league and keeps the interest of fans until the last game in many cases.
Agnelli and co, don't seem to appreciate that if their league went ahead that at some point in the first few seasons fans would also get bored of watching the same teams week in week out, with no chance of winning the title and no threat of relegation to keep them interested. Let's face it, a game midway through the season between a 7th placed Atl Madrid against 10th placed Chelsea in a 10 match division is not going to attract any real interest between fans.Comment
