Huge void caused by Eze departure, Good money though.

Unfamiliar players both to us and each other brought in. They need to "gel". Pattern of play needs to develop depending on how brought in players and those remaining from last season plus those youngster coming through the ranks come together.

As they say in cooking, they need to get to know one another before the full chemistry is there.

Different combinations need to be tested, refined and developed. Not all experiments work. But there is a need to get that stability sooner rather than later, and try different things earlier in games when thing look like turning sour.

No fans, no atmosphere, no 12th man (fans).

Let's just give them a chance to sort things out before we make any rash judgements.

If and I'm not saying this isn't the case, but if Eze basically made us the team we were, a one man team, why try to play the same way?
If we don't have another Eze, then don't play the same tactics.

Selling Eze reminds me of when Les went to Geordies the hole he left was too big for us to replace and the rest of the squad was inadequate. Bonne looks worse than Washington, Chair has been abysmal and vanishes

FFS they’ve had 7 games & not all of them have played together in those, got to give them time to gel, Bonnie has played 3 & a half games & getting slagged already, give the lad a chance & he hasn’t much supply from midfield or wingers, don’t believe some people on here, agree last 2 matches have been dire & warbs needs to change midfield as not a lot happening

Thanks all for the sprightly conversation. Not sure where anyone got the idea MW should be sacked. My opener in this loop suggested we had to do less messing around back and forth on the back line when we may just have some real firepower up front. Get the ball to them. Any way you can. Given our midfield has not been that linkup, would like to see more balls from Seny kicked up to the front line, and when they have the ball, more pace and more going forward from our back line.

As it is, we have somewhat steadied the defense while forfeiting much thirst (short of bursts from BOS and occasionally others) for the other goal.

This is all about assessing, reassessing, trying and/or discarding tactical schemes that fit this club and their personnel.

MW has a lot of admirable qualities -- steady, articulate, decent, experienced -- now let's see if he can add another to that pile: game day tactician.

I didn't bother watching the game but noted the half time stats of nil shots on target and nil corners, but had 63% possession. The most telling stats were that the players who made the most passes in that half were Barbet, Dickie and Cameron! I stand to be corrected by those on here who did watch it, but They probably passed the ball amongst themselves for much of the half.

If he is going to select a 442 with two wingers and centre forwards then surely the ball needs to get forward much quicker.

Didnt other managers have their critics for the direct style that is now being called for? Hoof ball has been mentioned in the past. I dont think you you meant launching from the back missing out the nidfield but there needs to be a balance. Moving the ball quicker and getting at them perhaps.

Deep down perhaps MW wants to nurse the team through games due to the schedule. But surely you have to take risks at home and tighten up in aways games to avoid team injuries.

Indeed this, Keeper looks good always a plus and a long time coming, Bos will score one day and the rest will get better playing together and if you wanna really look on the bright side none of us will have to suffer that F ing Premiership for a bit.

I meant getting the ball out quicker to the wingers rather than hoofing the ball into the penalty area. Did that happen yesterday or did they just pass it around at the back with no real attacking purpose.

This is what I was getting at rather than the suggestion of hoofball. Get the ball out to wingers , they can get at the opposing players and deliver crosses to the strikers. A bit like the football we played when we had Impey and Sinclair on the wings and Ferdinand partnered with Penrice or Allen. It isn't complicated.

The proof MW is now willing to be "more direct" will be provided in the next few games. Zero goals scored in three games is not due to bad fortune but tactical tepidness.

It's not unfair to ask why we continually move from goalie to LB to CB back to LB to goalie to RB, etc, when the other defense just sits back, packs in, and waits.

Yesterday was raining much of the game, meaning ANY balls could have proven dangerous but ONLY if bouncing in the other team's zone. Think it's safe to say that scoring goals from your own zone is a 1-in-a-1000 proposition.
