Not sure, that was rumoured as well. He did an article for the telegraph saying reports he had depression were "ridiculous". Went to France for a "personal family matter" for a few days. Maybe we will find out someday exactly what went on.

Considering how he kept getting red-carded it was clear he already had temperament issues. Apparently he then lost family members during the Mali civil war, the trauma of which would have only compounded his mental health state.
