Statement from QPR on all players being released, including Ale Faurlin & Clint Hill:

QPR confirm released list, with Hill and Faurlin amongst those set to depart Loftus Road

LONG-serving QPR duo Clint Hill and Alejandro Faurlin will leave the club this summer.

The pair, who both featured in our final Sky Bet Championship fixture of the season against Bristol City on

Saturday, will depart Loftus Road when their contracts expire at the end of June.

In addition, the club can confirm a further five first team players are set to leave QPR.

Robert Green, Armand Traore, Yun Suk-Young, Samba Diakite and Oscar Gobern will all depart when their

contracts expire on June 30th.

Loanees Paul Konchesky and Gabriele Angella have both returned to their parent clubs.

The club would like to thank all the players for their contribution to QPR and wish them every success in the

future.

Meanwhile, Karl Henry and Junior Hoilett are in discussions with the club about extending their stay in W12.

CLINT HILL

Affectionately known as ‘Mr QPR,’ Clint Hill arrived from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2010. With Neil

Warnock at the helm, some eyebrows were raised when the left-back joined from Selhurst Park, but having

managed him at Palace, Warnock knew what he was getting – a fierce competitor and natural leader, two vital

ingredients for any side with aspirations of being successful in the Championship.

Hill made 44 league appearances as Rangers stormed to promotion glory, and for many was the captain without

the armband.

The following year, Hill showed he wasn’t just a solid Championship defender – he was a reliable Premier

League one as well, as he helped Rangers successfully fight relegation and remain in the top flight.

After dropping down to the Championship the following season, in 2013/14 Hill captained the club to more

promotion glory, this time through the play-offs.

‘Mr QPR’ lifting the trophy at Wembley will forever be one of the iconic images of our club’s history.


ALEJANDRO FAURLIN

Where do we start with the impact Alejandro Faurlin has had on this club during his seven years at Loftus

Road? Faurlin joined QPR in the summer of 2009 from Instituto in Argentina. His creative style of play and keen eye

for a defence-splitting pass quickly made him a popular man amongst the supporters.

In 2010/11, his second season with the club, Faurlin built a fantastic understanding with Adel Taarabt as

Rangers stormed to Championship glory, and in doing so end a 15-year exile from the Premier League for QPR.

But that season wasn’t without its challenges as QPR were investigated regarding a third-party ownership issue

over Faurlin’s initial arrival.

The fans rallied around Faurlin during that period, and the whole affair only served to increase the supporters’

affections towards the midfielder.

In 2011/12, Faurlin was starting to underline his abilities as a player as he more than held his own in the Premier

League before he was hit by an incredible three ACL injuries in as many years.

Faurlin’s attitude throughout really endeared him to the R’s faithful and his successful return this season was a

delight for all QPR supporters. He leaves Loftus Road with his head held high and as a firm favourite.

ROBERT GREEN

Robert Green joined Rangers in the summer of 2012 and played a pivotal role in the R’s return to the Premier

League the following season. The England goalkeeper set a club record with eight consecutive clean sheets in

October 2013 and his role in our promotion-winning campaign cannot be underestimated – not least his man-of-

the-match performance in the Play-Off Final at Wembley. Despite only lasting one season back in the top flight,

Green’s displays between the sticks were one of the few highlights; form which earned him a recall to the Three

Lions squad. In total, the 36 year-old made over 120 appearances during his four-year stay in W12.

ARMAND TRAORE

Armand Traore leaves Loftus Road after five years with the club. The left-sided player played a crucial role in

our incredible final-day survival at Manchester City in 2011/12, as well as playing his part in our Play-Off Final

win at Wembley two years later. The Frenchman departs Loftus Road having made 87 league appearances,

scoring two goals.

SAMBA DIAKITE

Samba Diakite arrived from French outfit Nancy in January 2012 initially on loan – a move which was soon

made permanent after helping Rangers avoid relegation from the Premier League. Diakite made 14 appearances

that season but featured just once the following term and didn’t feature at all in 2014/15.

YUN SUK-YOUNG

South Korean international Yun Suk-Young joined on a three-and- a-half- year deal in January 2013. After a brief

loan spell at Doncaster Rovers, the left-back returned to help Rangers win promotion via the Play-Offs. Yun

featured 23 times in the Premier League during the 2014/15 campaign but just three times in 2015/16, spending

the second half of the season on loan at Charlton Athletic.

OSCAR GOBERN

Oscar Gobern joined QPR on a 12-month deal in August 2015. The midfielder arrived from Huddersfield Town

after impressing in pre-season but made just two League Cup appearances before a brief loan spell at Doncaster

Rovers.

QPR boss gives his views on the decision to let Hill and Faurlin leave Loftus Road

QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has thanked long-serving duo Clint Hill and Alejandro Faurlin for their

‘outstanding effort and commitment’ at Loftus Road, following confirmation of the news that both players will

be leaving the club at the end of their current contracts.

Five other players – including Rob Green and Armand Traore – will also depart on June 30th, whilst Karl Henry

and Junior Hoilett are in talks with the club about extending their stay in W12.

Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Hasselbaink – who finalised talks with all of his players this morning

(Monday) – explained his reasons for the decisions to www.qpr.co.uk, commenting: “There is no disguising we

have had some very difficult decisions to make.

“What was absolutely vital though, when I was speaking to all of the players, was that I was 100 per-cent honest

with them. They needed to know where they stand, and my views.

“Clint and Ale are QPR stalwarts who have given outstanding effort and commitment to the club, but now is the

time to try to make new heroes for the supporters.”

On Hill’s departure after 185 appearances in all competitions for QPR, Hasselbaink said: “If Clint was a few

years younger and could play 46 games in the Championship, it would have been a no brainer to keep him.

“The reality is we do not know how many games he would be able to play next season. For me, the next centre-

half I bring to the club has to be able to play 46 games.

“I am not in a position to sign a player who we know is not going to be able to play Saturday, Tuesday,

Saturday. It is a pity because Clint is a competitor and I know he is QPR through and through.

“We wish him every success, and I am absolutely sure the fans will see him back at this club one day as a

Faurlin leaves after making 163 appearances for the club and Hasselbaink added: “I see Ale as a squad player

for next year but he wants to play game after game after game, which I understand. Unfortunately I am not able

to give him that assurance. From there, we have made our decision to go our separate ways.

“There are no grudges between us. We have worked really well together and I respect him. It is a football

“He has been great to deal with. I have had a very good working relationship with him. He was on board with

what we were trying to do this season. Now what we are looking to do is move to the next step.

“For him, the next step is to continue his football journey elsewhere. We wish him the very best for the future

and thank him enormously for his efforts.

“I really wish him a good journey. I cannot say anything bad about him as a guy or as a player. The reality is we

have tough decisions to make but it is important we are honest with everyone when we make them.”

Sad that Hill and Faurlin are going, but it's time.
No doubt this thread will be hijacked too, even though there are 4 names there that everyone wanted gone. Not fussed at all about Yun. I think Kpekawa and Robinson can grow into very good players.
