Spot on. The reports I've read said a deal worth £6m. Probably be looking at £3.5-4m up front max.

I mean that it doesn't matter what team bids!!
A club could offer us £10million for Phillips but it means nothing as he decides whether to join that club or not.
Apparently we have gone back to Boro and told them to up there offer, but it doesn't matter what offer we get if he doesn't want to join them.

I'd be surprised if he went Boro. Maybe on deadline day if the interest from Premier League clubs hasn't surfaced but until then I think he'll be happy to wait and see rather than head up to Boro.

If he leaves it will be to a Prem Club, Middlesbrough could quite easily end up in play offs and miss out in promotion and he still ends up in Championship.
Newcastle offered £10million for Townsend, and Spurs want £12million.
They come in with a straight cash deal of £6million he will be off.

The fee we paid for Philips was reported to be around 4 mil at the time but I seem to remember reading over the summer that it was actually 2.5 mil which if true represents a rare player profit for us.
