1) it was Austin that rejected Leicester not QPR.Originally posted by qprmarc View PostThey are like bunch of spotty teenagers in their first job in McDonald's , they seriously haven't got a clue. I mean they might as well have sold Austin for £12m in the summer and used that money to rebuild. Why wasn't a new contract given to Austin upon promotion to the premiership , just a huge lack of knowledge, common sense and organisation at the club, decision after decision I can see they are making is wrong.
For people claiming to be top businessmen I have my reservations as it looks like they would struggle to run a corner shop let alone a football club
2) no one else bid for him
3) you can't force someone to sign a new contract. By all accounts we offered him one but he wouldn't sign
4) if we had given Austin a (say) £40k a week contract and got relegated then we have a Green situation on our hands.

You can't tell me Leicester where the only team interested in an English striker who scored 17 league goals in a very poor team , not having that , he would have sold at the right price if done correctly.Originally posted by oldskoolturk View Post1) it was Austin that rejected Leicester not QPR.

Not saying that we could force Austin to sign a new contract but he should have been sold in the summer and we could have started fresh without the ' will he stay or will he go' distracting the club throughout the season.
And if we Austin had signed a new 40k a week deal , it wouldn't be the same as green. Austin actually contributes to getting his wages as he was a vital part of the team, green on the other hand could be replaced by a lamppost and I'd feel more comfortable with the lamppost in goal

I get that but it was Charlie who turned Leicester down not the club which means that even though publicly the club said £15m they would have entertained anything around £12m as well. Other clubs would have known this but still didn't put any firm bids in.Originally posted by qprmarc View PostYou can't tell me Leicester where the only team interested in an English striker who scored 17 league goals in a very poor team , not having that , he would have sold at the right price if done correctly.

Haha fully agree with the green quite!! I mean though that if we had given him a high contract and this season turns out as it has done then, if clubs wouldn't buy him at £12m they certainly wouldn't buy him now.
The whole thing feels odd to me. As you say, logic would determine that clubs should have been interested in a 25 year old (at the time) English striker who scored 17 prem goals for a relegated side......and yet clubs publicly distanced themselves from him and in the ends its almost like we struggled to sell him.

Come on Brights, you've seen enough transfer windows by now to know most transfers are done at the end not the beginning.Originally posted by brightonr View PostStarting to find it increasingly difficult to defend these idiots this season.
Need a top goalscorer in this week. God only knows why we haven't done so already, apart from the fact that we never act promptly and decisively.
Besides, we're not the most attractive proposition for anyone worth their salt.Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

Which one? We've got two chairmen and four owners 😉Originally posted by Bigdave View Post1 swallow don't make a summer mate, delighted with the win today but let's not kid ourselves our owner/chairman is a clownSupporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

Don't be so logical it doesn't fit into the We hate QPR at the moment ethos ! Suddenly everyone knew Leicester would be a Champions League side and what were we doing turning them down, not whether Charlie would actually not want to be in another relegation battle. JFH has explained the reason why but let's ignore his explanation and #### the club off some more. I will just love it, love it I tell you when Jimmy gets us promoted in next 24 months.Originally posted by oldskoolturk View Post1) it was Austin that rejected Leicester not QPR.

HINDSIGHT HINDSIGHT HINDSGIHT
Show me all the posts in the summer begging us to sell Austin even if we only get £10m for him, there were none. We were in a position that we hoped he would stay and bring us back up then leave for nothing, it hasn't turned out like that so looks an unwise decision but isn't something that could be seen at the time.

I agree as if we sold him for £12m in the summer and we were struggling more than we are now then I can imagine this forum saying how we sold him on the cheap. It's a case of damned if you do and damned if you didn't and the board will never do right in some peoples eyes.Originally posted by Garyd73 View PostHINDSIGHT HINDSIGHT HINDSGIHT

Personally I feel it was a gamble and I know I was delighted when he stayed in the summer as I felt we had a much better chance of promotion with him. It obviously hasn't worked out but that's why it's a gamble and as most gamblers know it doesn't always pan out like you want it to.
