This deal just makes it all the more stupid that we didn't bench him weeks ago. Might have made sense keeping him on for the second half of the season as backup if we could get 10+ games out of him without it costing us £5m (his annual salary). Now, with just 5 games to play with, it's not worth it. Odd that it'll take a contract spat to finally get him dropped.

This is also my view. Smithies should have been in the side weeks ago to give him a chance to settle and also to decide if QPR need to sign another keeper this month.

Now we face the prospect of going into games with Smithies and perhaps Lumley on the bench.

maybe i'm being a bit dumb, but if we don't want to trigger this contract extension, why have we picked him for every league game that he was eligible for this season and even for one league cup game?

either it doesn't exist or we couldn't organise a tea party in a big tea factory...

I'd take a rough guess and say the club have just noticed this on his paperwork, as was in the pending tray underneath Sandros Visa renewal!!

If we knew about this clause, then what was the point in having Green as No1 to then axe him half way through season?

Probably find out soon that Charlie isn't injured but if plays 1 more game then he is entitled to a huge bonus

Seems like Smithies will be given go regardless of Green's situation then. Green's been good for us these past few years but I reckon it's time both parties move on now.

I reckon as some else said, if it is true, they thought play best team hopefully be in the mix of promotion then its worth the risk of triggering it. Reckon they have accepted were not going up and have rightly done the right thing and decided not to trigger it

Probably because we were "going for it" and now we're not anymore, so its come down to this.
