I was going to mention that but thought people might use the "Gray is english so comes with a premium" argument. Nationality doesnt bother me really, I would much rather Gestede than Gray IMO

I disagree. All the strikers that have been bought for big money in the champ have done it regularly in that division or at least the football league previously. He's had 1 season in the championship and so he's still not proven. Charlie had done it for 2 years in the championship with Burnley as well as 2 years with Swindon. This kid was playing non league before last season. Things do not change that drastically in 2 years (in terms of valuations) so I wouldnt say I'm living in the past. Also just because Fulham were mugs and overpaid ridiculously for McCormack doesnt mean we should follow suit. I also disagree that the going rate for Gray is £7 mill, just because Brentford are demanding a certain amount does not make it the "going rate". Do you honestly believe we will spend that much on 1 player this summer?

The DOF philosophy on strikers I think I understand was that Austin is not our type of new frontman. Faster and more skilful as in dribbling? So if so, we would not be changing like for like.

Gray isnt in that bracket yet, hence why he hasnt been valued at £12m.

The market is now mad - The proof is in the pudding, £7m is what Brentford value you him at because the market is now how it is.
Robbie Brady just went Norwich for £8m and his a midfielder with a load of injuries who hardly played last season... James CHester has just gone to WBA for £7m and his a 26 year old defender!

We're valuing Austin at £15m and his only done it in the Prem for one season, has a dodgy knee/shoulder and is in the final year of his contract!

You can throw recent transfers of defenders who have been playing in the prem out there but I dont think they are that relevant. Austin has done it for the last 6 seasons in the football league. Gray has had 1. Lets just leave it at that because we obviously have different opinions on him.

Also Im suprised by the amount of time and energy you have put in to talk about a player that doesnt even play for us

There are some crazy valuations out there I agree. I dont see us spending that much on 1 player this summer personally so we probably wont be signing him. Maybe we need to start looking abroad for some proper value but I dont wanna think about the reaction on here if we sign more "unknown" foreigners

Agree talk of 7m for Gray is ludicrous but do seem to be a lack of options to replace Austin. No way we will spend the kind of money needed for either of the Blackburn strikers. Most likely be someone from abroad not on any of our radars. That is if we buy anyone - just pray the club don't think Mackie, JET and Poulter will be enough.

That we have, Mas, Gladwin, Chery, Phillips, Diakite and I don't know what's going on with Sutherland, showed a lot of promise as an attacking MF.
