Well whether you think he is worth that much or not, thats what they want for him or so ive been told.Originally posted by Hove Ranger View PostI disagree. All the strikers that have been bought for big money in the champ have done it regularly in that division or at least the football league previously. He's had 1 season in the championship and so he's still not proven. Charlie had done it for 2 years in the championship with Burnley as well as 2 years with Swindon. This kid was playing non league before last season. Things do not change that drastically in 2 years (in terms of valuations) so I wouldnt say I'm living in the past. Also just because Fulham were mugs and overpaid ridiculously for McCormack doesnt mean we should follow suit. I also disagree that the going rate for Gray is £7 mill, just because Brentford are demanding a certain amount does not make it the "going rate". Do you honestly believe we will spend that much on 1 player this summer?
I dont think he is worth that much either but thats where the market is right now..
Things do change that quickly, clearly. Because they have? haha
Im also NOT saying, WE should follow suit for anything... Im saying, thats how much THEY value him and thats where the market is at right now on striker valuations.
Your getting what i think confused with what i am stating.
I think if Charlie goes, we could spend that much on a striker yes. I think its possible.
The market has gone mad for strikers.. Rhodes £12m, Gestede £6/7mill. Gray for 7 mill or a little under is now probably the going rate. Whether anyone pays it or not is another matter...

Funny you should say that, I get the impression that they want rid of Phillips, Austin and maybe even Green.Originally posted by Greengrass View PostThe DOF philosophy on strikers I think I understand was that Austin is not our type of new frontman. Faster and more skilful as in dribbling? So if so, we would not be changing like for like.Kept the faith!

Fair enough. I dont think we should pay more than £4 mill for him. If Brentford want £7 mill they can sit and wait for that (because it wont come). I dont put Gray in the same bracket as players like McCormack and Rhodes as these players have scored goals consistently in the football league and tbh i dont think they are even worth close to what was paid for them. Again I would disagree that things have changed that drastically that Gray is worth £7 mill as market value. One thing i think you are confusing is what a club want for their player and what the actual "going rate" or market value of that player is. Just because a club state an amount for someone doesnt mean that is the "going rate" or market value for that player.Originally posted by West London is Rss View PostWell whether you think he is worth that much or not, thats what they want for him or so ive been told.

Gray isnt in that bracket yet, hence why he hasnt been valued at £12m.
The market is now mad - The proof is in the pudding, £7m is what Brentford value you him at because the market is now how it is.
Robbie Brady just went Norwich for £8m and his a midfielder with a load of injuries who hardly played last season... James CHester has just gone to WBA for £7m and his a 26 year old defender!
We're valuing Austin at £15m and his only done it in the Prem for one season, has a dodgy knee/shoulder and is in the final year of his contract!
The market has gone bonkers!!

let agree to disagree because I cant be bothered. I dont think he is worth more than £4 mill. You can throw recent transfers of defenders who have been playing in the prem out there but I dont think they are that relevant. Austin has done it for the last 6 seasons in the football league. Gray has had 1. Lets just leave it at that because we obviously have different opinions on him.
Also Im suprised by the amount of time and energy you have put in to talk about a player that doesnt even play for us

I dont think his worth that either!!! Thats just what he is valued at by Brentford because of how the market is and because they want to hand onto him!! Robby Brady aint worth £8m but the market and money has driven a bloke with a load of injuries, who missed most of last season, value to that.Originally posted by Hove Ranger View Postlet agree to disagree because I cant be bothered. Gray has done it for the last 3 seasons, in the conference and now one season in the football league. He'd be worth double if he had done it for as long as Charlie, hence why Charlie is valued at 15 mill and Gray is valued at £6-7 mill.
If we brought Charlie from Burnley now in 2015 then Burnley would be wanting double IMO, thats how much i think it has changed in the space of a couple of years.
Its mad out there mate - For what its worth i dont think any bloke who kicks a ball around should be worth a £1 million pounds let alone £15's etc.

Think Chaz's missus has quashed this, hopefully!Originally posted by Ginger Ninja View PostThose of you on Twitter and know about the accounts on there...is @EDS_Amy a reliable source?
Because she just tweeted that Austin to Newcastle is a done deal.

There are some crazy valuations out there I agree. I dont see us spending that much on 1 player this summer personally so we probably wont be signing him. Maybe we need to start looking abroad for some proper value but I dont wanna think about the reaction on here if we sign more "unknown" foreignersOriginally posted by West London is Rss View PostI dont think his worth that either!!! Agree talk of 7m for Gray is ludicrous but do seem to be a lack of options to replace Austin. No way we will spend the kind of money needed for either of the Blackburn strikers. Most likely be someone from abroad not on any of our radars. That is if we buy anyone - just pray the club don't think Mackie, JET and Poulter will be enough.

That we have, Mas, Gladwin, Chery, Phillips, Diakite and I don't know what's going on with Sutherland, showed a lot of promise as an attacking MF.Originally posted by Brian Wilson View PostI could see Mackie and JET chipping in with maybe 5 each then Polter maybe 7 or 8 so we better have some goalscoring midfielders if thats the case.Kept the faith!
