The other factor of course is that wage demands are no object to Chelsea either - they'll happily pay him £80,000 a week to sit on the bench.

True, but I would feel much better selling him in January when he will've almost certainly scored some important goals for us, than a week before the start of the season. Selling your best player is inconvenient at any time, but some times are more troublesome than others.

Ray Wilkins has gone on record as saying he knew that selling your best player would hurt (Les Ferdinand) but what he had not realised was that it would relegate us. OK we cd argue that his shockingly bad signings - way worse than anything Mark Hughes ever did - played a big part in that but think our chances of staying up are as closely tied to keeping hold of Remy as they were then to keeping Ferdinand. Would love to be proved wrong but just don't see us having the nous and the skill and pulling power - let alone the sheer cash - to get a player of comparable ability.

Stainrod, completely agree...you can already see the similarities in our fortunes between the current team with Remy and the team of the mid 90's with Ferdinand (another top class striker who we sold cheaply, albeit in different circumstances.) There is no question that our chances of being relegated will rise dramatically if Remy goes....no other club who will be in the bottom 6 or 7 has a 15-20 goal a season striker on their books, which gives us a huge advantage. It would be typical Chelsea to **** us up by putting our best player on their bench.

They'll offer £8.5million and Remy will leave - it'll be as straightforward as that (if true.) I don't think we'll be in much of a position to negotiate with them.

I'm sure the club are aware this could happen up until deadline day. We will have our targets if he ends up going.

Probably won't be as good as remy but better than what we have.

Remy doesn't want to be a bench warmer, and Mourinho slated Lukaku off for basically refusing to do that. I can't see it myself.

tw, it isn't scaremongering...it's common sense - losing Remy would be a hammer blow to our chances of survival. Of course we all hope it doesn't happen, but it makes too much sense to be simply rumour.
