All quiet on the transfer front - here's possibly why.

Sorry,I can't find a link so I'll repeat the Alan Nixon article from today's Sunday People.

"Harry Redknapp is in a transfer war with his own bosses at QPR.The boss of the Premier League new boys wants to bring in big and older names on top salaries,but Tony Fernandes and his scouting team prefer emerging talents.
Redknapp hopes to land the likes of Rio Ferdinand and possibly Ashley Cole if he can,but that would cost a lot of money in salaries with no resale value.Fernandes and his sidekicks have been working on other possible captures,with the emphasis on players they can develop.The lack of progress on the signing front is down to this difference of opinion.
Owner Ferandes pumped millions into the club - backing Redknapp heavily when he tried to keep Rangers up last time.Rangers do not want to run up more debt and would rather sign players who have a resale value if they go down.
Meanwhile,Bobby Zamora has been released by QPR despite scoring the goal which took them into the Premier League,and his old pal Andrew Johnson is also on the lookout for a new club after being told his services are no longer required at Loftus Road".

I doubt that Redknapp is trying to sign "have-been old players". I am sure he is aware of the impact on the club financial situation; so the delay could be because he is has many alternative targets in mind; still negotiating and also waiting for some target players to return from their holidays.

On the other hand, it is a bit worrying we still have not signed anyone and the future of out of contract players have not officially been stated by the club.

Was on the cards re: Bobby and AJ. Going to miss them....But good to see there are no knee jerk reactions to signings, but discussions, even if there are differences in opinion in the buying procedures.

Poor journalism and not true, has and always will be a balance of players and keep your eyes peeled for the Ferdinand announcement.

Hope this is b*llocks...As has been said above there are hardly any transfers happening at the moment. But the bottom line is if TF is choosing the players that is bad news.

I give the story the same short shrift as you, but if it was true, I like the fact that the board are looking to change the pattern of the last few seasons, despite that potentially causing a problem with the manager.

The (perceived) lack of activity is much more likely due to the fact that the transfer window doesn't open until July 1st and we are keeping things quiet this time around (IMO).

A manager is employed to manage that's why you employ him.

It's pretty simple you give him a budget to work with for fees / salaries. No argument then.

I don't want Tony identifying players....it's the managers job. There is nothing wrong with having a balance in young and older players. Obviously if TF says i won't pay wages over a certain amount then
Harry will have to work within those parameters but if that was the case Harry wouldn't be trying to sign players on big wages

Identifying individual players, probably a bad idea. Giving the manager a set of parameters to work in seems like fairly standard practice, and if the parameters are to buy younger players with the potential to improve, and also have a resale value that sounds like a decent plan.

It may not be feasible, but if it is something we are looking to try and stick to, I'm encouraged rather than concerned.

Nothing wrong with Fernandes keeping Redknapp on a tight leash, on the proviso that we don't get bogged down too much in what Fernandes' sidekicks have to say....Redknapp still has an eye for a player, he just needs stricter boundaries than he is used to when it comes transfer fees and wages.
